My inlaws use electric to heat a 4 year old house which is smaller than mine and has excellent insulation and it costs them the same (combined gas & elect vs. their elect.) as it costs us to heat our 105 year old house. If our house even has insulation, it's probably shreded-newspaper. Plus, since my mother-in-law is home alone a lot since dad's an OTR trucker, she only heats & lights the room she's in.

IMO the best source of heat is wood. A good stove will heat an average sized house on 4-5 logs a day. Out here a cut & split cord of wood costs ~$100 and at that rate will last 1.5-2 months. Or you can go cut it yourself and save even more $ [img]smile.gif[/img]

wood....... yikes. My parents have a woodstove and with my mom home all day, she keeps throwing in the wood...... say the average outdoor temp is 18*, the average indoor temp is 84*!! you come in from working in the cold and the first thing that happens after you sit down is you fall right asleep.

Wood is a great heat source though.... but too much work for most of america these days. while electric is the cleanest, as far as the least amount of alergens it releases into the air inside your house, it is also the most inefficient and therefore the most expensive. it is a good supplemental source only!!

there is a guy in ne philly that does that also. and best part of it is the house next to it only has a few lights and a little ligh up sign that is pointing in the direction of the house that says ditto
