Yeah because its ILLEGAL
You could take a program like Subseven or Back oriface and hack the crap out of him...
Um... some forums post your IP every time you make a post. That's how I got this one lol. But I traced it and it came from Jackson, MI... Which is quite a ways from me. I don't even know anyone near Jackson, so obviously this is just some idiot that doesn't even know me.

Not like you can just get any IP and use sub7 to mess with them, it's not that easy.
There are other things you can do with IP addresses... but I gave up on those things a long time ago

Oh.. and your piggy backed on a ATT backbone, through a cogent line from your ISP too... would you like more info?? ;)
Steve
Yeah, that's me. :D
And yep, that's all correct lol.
But I'm not just outside of Adrian... I'm on the far side of a different city a ways away. But my ISP is located in Adrian, so that's probably it.

i used to mess with subseven, you have to send a back door to get it to work...
If you want his name, call his ISP (internet serice provider) and tell them he has been harassing you,, see if they will give you his name, or if you know any cops, have them help you out ;) they can def. hook you up

The only thing you can do with someone's IP address is try to find a way to connect to their computer and gain root/admin access.
Most likely you will not do this if they are behind a router with a firewall and have the most recent security patches.
About the only thing you can do is a "distributed denial of service attack"
Is it illegal?
Sure, a computer is just like your house. I could call a bunch of people up to stand in front of your door so no one gets in or out of your house, which is harrassment.
Or i could break into your house, steal information, alter your property, destroy your property.
Will you get cought? Most likely not, the FBI will not come after you for hacking your neighbors computer unless they work for the government and they are using gov property.
Or if your neighbor runs a business from his computer that generates thousands of dollars and when you hacked his computer he lost tons of money. Then FBI will come after you.
Or your neighbor is very rich and can pay the FBI or another type of internet private eye to track you down and bring a case in court. (highly unlikely)
FBI will not deal with anything under $5000 in damage.
So if you let someone steal your credit card online, and they draw out $1000. Most likely you and your credit union just got screwed and they will not be cought.
People get scammed on ebay all the time, does the FBI comes after them? Not if its under $5000.
You should always make sure your operating system is clean from trojans and worms. They are the theives in 50% of all stolen credit cards and biling information. 35% are from people using email scams, and 15% are form compromised servers.
www.cdnow.com was compromised by a russian man a few years ago that stole over hundred thousands credit cards. He was brought to justice.
But you just want to mess with his computer? Change his desktop? Scare him? Or wipe out his hard drive?
No, no cop shop, internet detective or FBI will waste their time for small time malicious defacing of a PC.

If I gained access to your computer right now, changed your files, deleted your hard drive. You could not do a thing. You could report me and guess what?
You got ticket number 974235682542 in line of all the other people complaining that someone compromised their computer.
Unless you have a log file and specific data and information from the ISP and lots of money to pay a lawyer and lots of time waste over your person home computer that you probably keep porn on or music, or games, or your office work.
And believe me, you ever try getting information from an ISP? The RIAA even has trouble getting information from an ISP and they have more money than all of us here and pretty good proof that people are uploading music illegally.
Is it really worth thousands of dollars to see me get a fine for $150-$1000 for tampering with property and a good chance the fine maybe under $200.
It's not, unless I caused you to lose out on alot of money.(example: cause damage to your business)
