today my school ucf had our first home game, which means TAILGATING! our school sucks and hasn't won a game in like 14 games or something like that. basically everyone goes to party beforehand, but then leaves once the game starts. ucf has their own police who go undercover to bust underage drinkers. they just walk around w/ normal clothes on and have their badge showing in a discrete area.

well here is when the event happened. i was walking around w/ my roommates socializing w/ people and we got over the a fraternity section. i saw a guy being chased by an undercover cop w/ a gun waving in the air. i was like holy crap, so we ran over to see what was going on. the guy running stopped, and then the whole frat surrounds the guy w/ the gun and he points it at all the other people. meanwhile, the original guy being chased runs away again and the cop runs him down and pistol whips him in the head. another frat guy runs over and puts the cop in a headlock, so they both drop to the ground. the cop then fires 3 shots in the air then turns and fires 1 in the stomach of the guy choking him. another uniform officer comes over not knowing whats going on and shoots the undercover cop 3 times in the back. the undercover cop DIED w/in a minute of being shot.

when the first shots were fired in the air i ran and got behind a jeep next to me. i was watching through the windshield and saw the cop get shot, spazzum(sp?), and then fall to the ground. everything happened so quick i was in shock. other officers and paramedics came over right away and tried to recesitate the cop, w/ no luck.

my other 2 roommates who were w/ me fell to the ground when the shots were fired instead of running away. they saw everything real close and they filled out police reports, got detained, and had to go downtown to the station and get questioned. the uniform officer walked up w/o knowing what is going on and shot w/o saying anything.

i gotta say seeing a person get shot and killed 20 ft in front of you is not something you want to see. you expect it to happen if you wander through the wrong neighborhood, but not at a tailgating party w/ a bunch of college students. you see it in the movies, but never expect something like that to happen in real life. soon after the whole field was taped off and no one was allowed to leave. we were forced to go into the game b/c it would take hours before they let us get our stuff.

this just happened earlier today so i'm sure headlines will break tomorrow. i'll post a link when i find something, but i'm sure it will be nationwide.

here is the first story i found.

yeah it was scary. the cop was coughing up blood b/c he was shot in the lungs. i'm still in shock about what happened. the news said the undercover cop had rubber bullets. the kid who got shot in the stomach had a serious wound. at point blank range it did major damage.

Wow, looks like some agencies out there need some remedial training.

It definitely sounds like the dead cop put himself into a bad situation by pulling a gun on what I assume was an unarmed student. Couple that with being plain-clothed and I'm sure that frat boys didn't know what the heck was going on. You never mentioned anyone in the story identify themselves as police officers, and that's what the problem seemed to be--failure to communicate.

maybe i dont know what im talking about, but a plain clothes operation with armed officers seems like a bit of overkill. sounds like theyre really desperate to bust the underage drinking and make some examples. you'd think a bigger deterrant would be uniformed cops.

of course... this story doesnt clarify why exactly the kid was being chased...

this is one of those unnecessary losses of life where you want to blame someone but you dont know who to blame.

Yeah, I second that. Cop #1 should not have pulled his gun like that, but on top of that he fired it 3 times in the air. Give me a break.. theres a bunch of young people around and you fire shots in the air? That is totally irresponsible not to mention stupid. If that guy didn't get killed, he should have lost his badge. Its cops like that which put normal people into dangerous predicaments. This time it was himself he got into something dangerous and he paid the price with his life. Unbelievable.

My roommates and some friends were there and saw it happen. I didn't go because I had to work in the afternoon. Their car was in the area where it happened and became part of the crime scene, so they couldn't leave for a long time.

I got a call from my roommate: Dude, 2 people got shot at the tailgate.

This kind of **** never happens.

sorry forgot to mention how it started. the undercover walked up to the kid to ask for his id. he didn't have it on him so he got in the cops face and started to threaten him. the undercover cop pulled his gun and the student ran. the cop did identify himself to the student, but others may not have known who he was.

the uniformed officer did not say anything and just fired. he should have yelled at the guy to drop his weapon or something. he shot w/ the intention to kill not knowing the situation.

i don't think the undercover cop is at fault. the stsudent got in his face and started to threaten him. he felt his life was in danger so he pulled the gun. any SMART person would drop to the ground and obey. this kid ran like an idiot. the guy fired in the air b/c another student came up from behind and started to strangle him. the uniformed cop shot having no idea what was going on. you don't shoot first and ask questions later...

I think the uniformed cop shot first because he didn't know that the guy was an undercover cop because of his plain clothes and plus the guy fired 3 shots and shot the other guy in the stomach. So I can kinda of sympathize with the uniformed cop. But still, thats some screwed up **** dude.

I think the idea of plain clothed cops running around is stupid...

I remember back in the day people used to walk around come up to you , selling crap and say if you don't buy it they were going to get the cops over here to stop anyone underage drinking(well there is tons of that).

wonder if the guy thought the plain clothed cop was one of those dousches?

I think the uniformed cop was just doing his job. He probably heard shots fired, and saw some guy waving a gun.
