I just beat it, and HL2 HAS to be the greatest FPS i have ever played!!! if you like FPS's and dont have it, go buy it RIGHT NOW!! ending is a little dissapointing though. Heres my system if you are interested

Athlon XP 3200 (at ~2400mhz)
Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo
1 gig CL2 Patriot (noname, but is great)
Radeon 9800 nonpro (@ 400/358, thanks to Zalman heat pipe)
2x Seagate Barricuda SATA 80g. in Raid 0
and a DVD player

i can play at 10x7 with everything maxed out (including 6x antial. and 16x aniso. only thing holdin me back is my crappy monitor :(

If you dont think you can run it, think again, my best friend runs it on his athlon 1600+ with a Radeon 8500, 256 of ram, its pretty dang slow, but it runs HL2 suprisingly well.

Sorry for the huge post, i think this is the longest one i have ever written...Enjoy

I'm still waiting for my CPU to come in, but here's my system stats once that part's in:

AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (Clawhammer, 1MB L2 Cache)
1GB Corsair PC-3200 RAM CAS Latency 2.5
2x Seagate 80GB SATA Drives (RAID-0)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, 128MB version
MSI K8N Neo-FSR nForce-3 Motherboard
Antec Sonata Tower w/380W PSU
HP 300i DVD+RW

I can't wait to buy HL2 and see how it runs! DOOM3 will be installed after I bore myself of HL2.

I totally agree with you - Half Life 2 was one of the best games I've ever played!

CS: Source isn't too bad either.

HL2 is truly one of the best FPS games Ive ever played. It makes Doom3's gameplay look like ping pong. The graphs, sounds, special fx, *gameplay*, storyline is all excellent.

I got it and got through the whole thing this weekend. You get to do just about everything you can imagine. The ending ... well, I'll refrain from giving any spoilers ;)

Oh yeah I played it in "Medium" settings and didn't notice much of a drop in graphic detail or FPS as opposed to the "High" settings.

I agree, but up to the very VERY end, the story and gameplay is amazing It just leaves you wanting to kick more a$$.

Return that FX-based card ASAP! That thing's gonna hurt your performance since it doesn't truly support DirectX9. Hang on, let me get the article...

EDIT: Forgot to add my Athlon 64 3400+ came in today, had just enough time before work to install it and the fan, and see if the system would POST. Then I got to come to work... yay... :(

Here's my system..

2.9 ghz pentium 4
128 mb nvidia 5200 fx card
512mb ram

I can play half life 2 on anostophic times 16 all high graphics and very little to no lag. It runs so god damn smooth, its unbelievable.

The funny thing is doom 3 lags on pc even on low graphics.

It is because of dooms compression methods and super advanced lighting makes me bearly play it smoothly.

um, that sounds really wrong, cause Nvidia cards are supposed to play Doom 3 better, Doom 3 uses stencil shaders, which Nvidia cards rule at drawing, while HL2 is a true dx9 game which ATI cards 'used' to outperform Nvidia at. (doom3=openGL) what res. are you running at?

Hey ya'll. I have a decent amount of Know-how on computers, but I'm pretty clueless on the subject of video cards.

My System:

Dell 8300

3.0 Ghz HT P4
512 Mb 3200DDR 400Mhz
Nvida FX5200 (128mb)

I have a feeling the Video card is gonna do me in for trying to play HL2, eh?

It'll be playable, but you may have to use the DX8 codepath to get decent performance. Crap, I still gotta get my copy of HL2 before the stores close! :D

Anyone played HL: Deathmatch?

It's total chaos!

I think I need it. I imagine my 2600+(333), 512MB PC2700, 128MB radeon 9600 pro can take it.

Maybe when I get back from San Diego I'll buy more ram and a 3200+...who knows...I'll prolly just build a 64 system.
