Yes, I wish Illinois' gun laws are the same as Colorado's. I miss Colorado. :(

Ever since this happened, I have become paranoid. I installed motion sensor lights in the front and the back plus installed the camera in back as well. Last night around 2 in the morning, I was watching Ghost Ship when the light in front comes on. I don't usually jump up and look outside to see what is out there but since my hero cat, Felix, was intensely staring out the window, I went to look.
      -
I saw two kids walking down the street checking to see if any cars were unlocked. I watched them do this to every car on the street and then they headed into my alley. I got out of the house asap and kept watching them. They went straight to where my alley neighbor's park there car. I got into my garage and got a 36" aluminum bat I keep for special occasions. ;) When I closed the garage door, I held the glass break. It took me 20 seconds to get over there and they already were leaving, stereo (and screw driver in hand). They came around the corner of the garage just as I got there. I surprised them and as soon as the taller one started to lift his arm w/ the screwdriver in it, I let him have it. The first swing was to the side of his knee which put him on the ground. The other one was already running down the alley. The one I hit was already trying to get up so I hit him again in the back. This sent him rolling and I hit him again just below the rib cage. This made him drop the screw driver but not the radio. I was amazed that he still got up and outran me. I did chase after them and saw what car they got into but I was not close enough to get the license plates.

The screwdriver did match the holes in the car doors. The police did eventually come out and look at everything. They had a busy night. Later on, I found out that a guy surprised two kids breaking into his car at a bar and one of the thieves shot and killed the guy. The shooter was only 14. story I have to go down to the station tomorrow and see if its the same kids that I 'ran' into. The bat thing made me feel a lot better but now I just feel lucky.

Of course I remember what he looks like. I got him to make a lot of difference faces. Some of which were the:
              -OMG face
              -we've been caught face
              -OMG, my f*ckin knee face
-the I think I bruised my kidney face
              and my favorite
-the my f*ckin ribs face with the sound of the unforgiving blunt impact and the 'something's internally damaged' moan

Spend money on a good alarm. And a sticker that says "Car has alarm. Not scared? Owner has Gun."

And I have had my car broken into before, Most vulnerable feeling ever. I would kill to have the change to crack a thief with a bat.

this sucks man. im sorry to hear that. a similar thing happened to me in my old car (blazer). it happened at school and they actually brought a cop, and a fingerprint detective guy to take prints of the car..however, those are only good if the person that did it has a criminal record. anyways, sorry to hear that!!

that is so insane. if it is the same guys that means the one that ran had a gun on him and he could have shot you.

Why'd they do so much damage just for a stereo? Perhaps an enemy or so making it look like a theif. Sounds like alot of damage. SUcks.

ehh not sure it was a good idea...

I mean I bet it felt great ot beat the piss out of them, but if you were breaking into cars and some guy hit you with a bat a few times...

know what I woudl do, go back to his neighborhood and make it so they need a flatbed truck to get his car out of his driveway.

Not to mention you could have gotten shot. Oh well can't say I wouldn't have just lost it and gone after the guys but you better believe the one guy wouldn't be leaving. Likely would have gotten myself in trouble.

Wow man, I'm sorry to hear that happen to you. I'm even more surprised that the police didn't want to come up and do a proper report on it, especially when you had dna evidence on your car and everything. I know how it feels. When I had my '89 Camaro, some kids decided to smash the back window to steal a pair of $20 speakers out of the car. That really ticked me off Good luck with making sure the person pays for what they've done

I went down to the police station to verify if 'my guys' were the same ones that shot that guy. It wasn't them so the kid that I beat is still out there.
