EDIT: actually, i take that back because for a couple thousand more i've got an LS1... much easier to work on
he said its a "T/A" which i assume means trans am, which is an LT1, correct? </font>
I'm not sure what you are getting at but 93-97 Trans Ams have the LT1 whereas 98-02 T/A's have LS1's. </font>
whoops, maybe i havent been paying attention but i just saw "LS1" and "LT1" and just thought they were the same. sorry.

I got my LS1 bout a year ago, 4/12/04 to be exact, and thats not the darkside, its the IncredibleSide if anything.

You may want to check for LT1 engine problems out on the internet before you buy. Do a couple searches. Blown headgaskets, leaking oil, anything that like. I did a quick one and came up with "Optispark, a useless ignition system that is prone to failure, get a 95 or 96 and you wont have this problem as soon.

Intake manifold leak, these cars can start to leak oil around the back of the intake, if you're pretty good around cars you could probably fix this yourself.

Rear axle, they are rather small for cars with these power levels, and they will break if abused, ie slicks of any kind and even drag radials after not too long."
            ETC...

My parents wouldn't let me buy an older car and motor like an LT1. I thought Id save myself some cash by going with like a 95 T/A, but they said 98+ at least LS1, more reliable. More power too of course, so hell, I wasnt going to complain.

Amen to that, I just grenaded mine. I had an axle bearing go out and the axle shifted the carrier causing the pinion to dig a real nice groove in my carrier.

$7K sounds abour right. My Z has had a strong engine, well the last time i drove it she did. IMO the most expensive problem with the LT1 would be the intake manifold oil leak. If your mechanically inclined you can fix it easily for little to nothing. Just a $35 set of TB and intake manifold gaskets and some Permatex Ultra Copper sealant. Just a heads up.
