  • snapped my crankshaft in half or broke my flywheel...

at first we thought it was basically a spun bearing on the connecting rod, but after I changed the oil I was gonna drive it straight home and park it. went down the street and turned the corner and my car died. So thats why we think its the crankshaft. When you crank it now it starts then immediatly dies, and a horrible knock...

the was my great ****ing day...

first off, why did you even start it if the bearing was already spun? thats just tearing it up even more, as you apparently found out...also, if the crank was broke i doubt it would start, or even try to start...it probably just started welding the bearing to the crank and its seizing up..

yeah i seriously doubt you snapped your crank
          it's probably what wickedsix said
or you could have thrown a rod that would explain the knock

When I started it the second time It wasn't that bad, I was gonna drive it to my house and park it. When I was on my way to my house it died. I tried to start it once after that and it wouldn't start.
I got it towed home after that

Snapped the crank? Doubt it, unless you're putting out over 500hp or so... that's just my $0.02...

like said I doubt its a broken crank... likely something with rod/piston.

in my 85, I shattered a piston and drove 7 mile with the connecting rod jsut bouncing off the cylinder walls.

Made it home then later it woudl start and stop, then eventually a chunk of the piston got wedged int eh crank and I couldn't turn it.

do a compression check on the cylinders if it still cranks, and pull the valve covers then the heads, worke your way down.

Or just buy a new motor and slap it in.

I think easier said than done my friend. But that happened to my 88 S-10 (2.8liter) and that was my only option. You know a brand new 2.8 liter motor cost me 3500? Could have bought a small block for much less....oh well.

Whats going rate for a used 3800? $400-600?
                        Jsut checked www.tacreationsusa.com its $300-600 for a 96-02 3.8L.

I am sure it will cost more in machine work yet alone parts and labor to rebuild your motor.

I'll have the pics as soon as it comes apart... My dad might let me borrow the money for a v8 conversion, wish me luck.

anyone have links to where I can buy everything I need for a v8 conversion, or where I can find used 3800 motors?

                              thanks for that link mustangeater...
