The big Harley debate

Well maybe not here but the big Harley debate goes on at several boards. If anyone didn't notice a new Harley now start at less then $7000 to compete with Jap bike prices. New cost less then used??? Hmmm how are they doing that.

Well it seams several key parts are guess what? made in Japan.

Harley has been goin down hill for awhile. They need something sporty... A Buell with alot of plastic flarings...They need to appeal to young people more...Harleys have always been to me "the old man's bike". My dad lives by harley.. I want a crotch rocket for my first bike, he disagrees but he knows il end up getting crotch rocket.

I love Harleys and have alot of friends my age that ride so at 18 I dont see a 1200 Custom as an old mans bike.

And as per the original question Harleys appreiciate so used bikes typically can go for more if you take care of em and chrome them up right. New bike prices have been that low for a while and the wait on a harley out of the factory is still like 4-6 months so its not like thier not movin bikes.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Are they declining in sales because of custom choppers?

custom sales are goin up but its because theve stopped being custom. If you want a chopped bike just like 300 other peoples its the way to go that and there expensive as hell speccially for a true custom

Hd has been going down hill. in 2002 a guy in charge of the tech dept bought one for $18,000 it was a new used as the guy only bought it while waiting for the one he wanted. Some models still have a long wait. I laughed at it though. It had warped plastic covers on the tank that were suppose to look like leather bra pieces.

$18,000 bike and they can even flip for fake foe leather tank pieces, just cheap warped plastic.

Though most "made in America" products are only assembled in America. There is no strict laws on the made in America tag.

Just like "American" business who have 90% of there products made outside of America. Long as you have an office with a type writer here, your an American company.

Since all that out sourcing stuff I think any business that has more than 25% of it business outside of America, should be banned from the American stock exchange. Let them list them self on the foreign markets.

I hate harleys. Overpriced pieces of crap. People wait for them, pay out the *** for them, and they still suck.

I'd take a used Harley over a new crotch rocket anyday. I like the cruiser look better than the sport bike look.

As an owner of a "crotch rocket" and having grown up HD in my family.... "to each there own" comes to mind.

What I hate is the riders that don't give respect to the other riders on the road (mostly HD owners, but not all). What I mean by this is most Sport Bike riders will wave to each other, some HD owners will do the same. It's an unspoken brotherhood. The wave acknowledges we share the same road, for the same reasons. The love of 2 wheels and riding.

I try to wave to any rider on the road (as long as I can), to let them know I'm there for the same reason they are, no matter what bike I ride or they ride.

I'd be happy w/either import or domestic. My first/only bike was a 78 Honda 750K. Does being an import make it less a bike? Does an import modeled after a Harley make it less of a bike? Does leaning forward on a crotch rocket so you have faster exit speed in crash make it less of a bike? [img]tongue.gif[/img]

The wave is the first thing you notice. all biker wave to each other when they pass. Its part of the brother hood of biking. But HD riders never wave, period. They have no interest in being friendly with anyone. They don't even wave to each other.

That's where the fraze came from. You'll meet the nicest people on a Honda.

I've yet to see a harley rider not wave to another harley rider. But not all bike riders I've seen wave to each other.

not true, i know HD riders that wave to crotch rocket guys more than us corvette guys wave to each other
