• Why you need a locking gas cap....

More than stealing/siphoning your gas, more than sugar/sand/other foreign matter in the tank...

    Arsonists.

A gal my wife works with had one of her cars arsoned - the fire got so hot it litterally melted a near by car

One of her neighbors had a half-burnt rag hanging out of his filler tube. Lucky for him he hadn't driven the truck in a while and it was out of gas so it didn't light

I hope they find the f*ckers who did this

that sucks... during the hurricanes, friend of mines 35th LE SS got all the gas syphoned out of it, along with all his roomates.

as for the fires they do get hot, apparently some jelous guy decided to torch some guy's car and it melted plastic panels up the sides of the 2 cars on either side of it. Crazy stuff...

Course this guy bashed in the windows and dumped a 5-gallon jug of gas in the car, don't really see a locking gas cap preventing that

Thats not so much an arsonist problem as an exgirlfriend problem.

Locking gas caps are the way to go.

I bought one after Hurricance Frances. Gas was very hard to find and one of the neighbors seemed to be eyeing my car (This man drove like 20 miles in his big SUV to get a cup of coffee for breakfast after the storms subsided - and then he moans that he's running low on gas. So, of course, he eventually waited in a gas line for THREE HOURS).
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

It's actually worse to light up a car w/ an empty gas tank *nearly empty* than one that is completely full. A completely full gas tank will just burn, but the nearly empty will actually combust because of the gas fumes.
