I go to a private school called Embry-Riddle here in Prescott, Arizona. The annual tuition of the cheapest degree program (aeronautical engineering) is 27,000 a year.
I wanted to go to this school pretty badly, so I worked my *** off in high school and got a HUGE scholarship through AFROTC. They pay my tuition in full, gimme some money every month, pay for my books and my housing. However, I still have to pay for my food, my car, and my insurance. So I still work 28 hours a week at Wal-Mart to make ends meet.
I could never, ever even come close to being able to afford this school without that scholarship. My parents help me out in no way whatsoever because they don't have enough money to. The other kids here, on the other hand, are extremely rich. Very few are on scholarship, and one of my acquaintances drives an Audi S4.
"Nice camaro, man. Is it the V8?"
"No, it's just the six. No way I could afford the insurance on 8. How're you makin the payment on your Audi?"
"My parents bought it for me for my sixteenth birthday. They pay the insurance too."
I don't know why, but it seems... I dunno, unfair? I hate to say that I'm jealous, but I am. This guy is in a fraternity, goes out and drinks on the weekend, and generally has a blast. He's in the easiest major, Aerospace Science, while I'm in Electrical Engineering busting my *** to keep my scholarship.
I guess sometimes the world ain't fair.
