I think it's awesome. Don't you guys realize that the people are bidding not for the item, but to support the family that tried their best to help a dying parent? Think of it as a memorial fund that goes to a family that needs the help.

        Honestly, I was touched by this auction.

          Seems a little odd to me that it's up to 15k... but this is the part I don't get..

          "Just wanted to add that all funds made from this auction will go to my son to buy himself something special."

          Maybe I'm just a cold person, but why not donate the money to Cancer research, or any charity, or at the very least, put it in the kid's college fund instead of buying him something special.

            I think at the time the listing was made, no assumptions were made how high it would go. Read closer to the bottom to see the question/answer section.

              A memorial fund?! She never states if the family is rich or poor. What she does say is that they live in one (of many) of her father's houses. How do you know the family's situation might I ask?

                Wow, people can get pretty creative on Ebay. And what kills me is there is always gullible people out there willing to throw money at their feet.

                I don't know if it's real or fake, but it's definately creative. If I had no character I'd be selling **** like this on ebay every day.

Aside from that, why the bitter post back at me? Oh wait, I apoligize that I actually feel sorry for families that lose loved ones before their time to disease.

                        Unfortunately I believe that it'd be pretty unlikely those were valid bids. Can't believe people are making identical auctions to ride on the "popularity" of this one. :(

                          </font>
Hey, it's not directed directly at you. It's just after hearing about the "virgin mary" in a sandwich and "ET" in a frosted flake I'm utterly floored at the crap one can sell with a sob story. It's amazing.
                          People will throw money at this (last legit bid was $440 odd dollars) or will donate to this kind of crap, but ask them to support a 18yr old in Iraq. An 18yr old who's out there not because he wants to be but because he fells it's his job and people put their wallets away.

                            Gotcha, I was just wondering. I agree with you on how perceptions change people's willingness to give money. I will also say that I'm a sap, I just have no extra money to give, only prayers and well-wishing. :(

                              I read about this the newspaper. I think that this is a great story. This womans father had been living with her when he passed away. Her young son approched her one day and said that his grandfather died and that he is still there and is mean. SO to calm the boys nerves she told the child that she would sell the grandfather on ebay so that he wouldn't bother him anymore. She said that she offerd the metal cane to the highest bidder, so that they werent completely empty handed. Also the winner would send the little boy a note saying that she recieved his grandfather and that he is doing fine, and is happy as can be and sends his love every day. It isnt about the ghost its about a young boy and his fear of his grandfather still being there even tho he died. When a young child lived with someone everyday and they pass away, the child goes through alot. Im sure with the grandfather going thru all the pain of cancer he was quite grumpy towards the end, and children do not understand this. I also think that it is great for some random stranger to have enough heart to help this family out by "buying" the grandfather. The something special that she buys with the money will be from his grandfather and that will give him happy memories. I dont think it is Bs at all.
