• Ordered myself a new monitor

    I'm always posting deals on here for you guys, that I run across, so...

    I just ordered myself a new panel to replace this aging and failing 19" CTX Trinitron CRT I've been using for the past three years.

    I've been waiting for that long for LCD panels to get cheaper, and faster. I use this computer for gaming as well as work, so response time is critical. Up until very recently, the technology has been too immature to produce LCD screens that can handle fast moving graphics without ghosting (that is, leaving fading trails behind a rapidly moving object on the screen).

    When they got down to 14ms and 12ms on 19" screens I knew we were getting close. Now, within the last few months, there are tons of 8ms screens coming out, and the one I just ordered is 4ms/5ms (typical). That's fast.

    So, if any of you gamers have been doing what I've been doing and waiting on upgrading, here's what I ordered:

    Now all I can do is wait, and pray for no dead pixels.

      Great price, and glad to see they're getting better, but think I'll stick with my CRT for now.

        Does look like a good price for a 19". However I don't have the cash laying around now, and my parents gave me a nice monitor for graduation that was a _big_ step up. 22" Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2060u. Has a USB hub in it and accepts multiple inputs (can work with 2 computers). We got it for about $150 I think. So for all of you that want an upgrade but don't have the cash for an LCD there is a good used CRT market out there.

How does Hz even apply to an LCD? Hz = cycles per second, and relates directly to the number of full refreshes from top to bottom the CRT scan can achieve at a specific resolution. LCD monitors don't work like that, which is why they came up with the millisecond rating to measure response time.

          So, that is confusing, to say the least.

            nice. I'd consider that deal if I didnt just get a pair of 21" View Sonic CRT's from a work raffle. I outgrew my desk... it couldnt hold these two beasts. I moved my comp. to the floor with a bean bag chair.

                I have a Samsung 19 inch that is 12ms I got about a year ago for 400 bucks, some of the best money I ever spent. And with that much view area infernal, 1 dead pixel is impossible to see. I have 1, I know exactly where it is, but at 1280x1024 sitting a comfortable distance away, I cant see it, at all. Its a black pixel, and it cannot be seen on a white screen.

                Oh, and 5ms is holy **** fast.

                    That's the guy that I use at work, and I love it. It's the first LCD that's tempted me away from CRTs. I need a new monitor anyway- I just may look into that Viewsonic

                        </font>
He prolly just went to the display properties to crank up the refresh rate like he was used to doing with his CRT, only to find that the LCD sits at 60Hz all the time. I instinctively did the same when I setup my parent's computer with their LCD.

                        On another note, I just replaced my 19" Trinitron with a 21" Trinitron that I scored from a friend for $20 :D My fileserver has a 17" Mitsu Diamond Pro on it that is very nice also.
