gaim = aim for windows however, some versions have it some don't mine didn't so I have to get all the RPM files needed for it to run and I am not sure witch ones I need. I would just throw xp on here and have it setup as a dual boot however my version of xp I got from school since I am a computer student under the MSDN license.

I use Slackware and Redhat, but I've never used Suse. Some distros have a package management program that you could run, and it would download the latest build and install it for you. If not, then you'll need to download the source code and compile it yourself.

Why exactly did you switch to linux? It sounds like you don't really have a clue what your doing. Most people have a friend to guide them through the process.

If you're at a university there's most likely a Linux users group that can help you.

Any particular reason you chose Suse? Like I said before, I've never used Suse, but distros like Redhat, Mandrake, and Knoppix are much more user(noob) friendly then say Slackware or Gentoo.

There doesn't seem to be a Suse specific release for gaim
                http://gaim.sourceforge.net/downloads.php
so you should download the source .tar.gz file, decompress it (I can't remember the command), then it should just be as easy as going into the directory in the shell and typing (as root)
                ./configure then wait, then
make then wait even longer, and then
make install and once its finished gaim should be installed

So are you trying to get your MS MBR back?

Get a boot disk and then run fdisk /mbr

                  That will rebuild your MBR.
