• depressed about my car...

this is really getting me down...

my car had a few minor problems after i bought it(may 2004), but i fixed them all. it ran perfect for months. then a couple weeks ago it had a misfire. $2 bottle of injector cleaner fixed that. yesterday, 300 miles later, and the day of our holiday formal (kinda like prom), my car ****s out on me. it starts misfiring all to hell, something is knocking in the engine once in a while, and it even stalled on me while i was making a left turn. almost died because of an oncoming car going 50mph.

my car seems to give me all kinds of problems. when i got it, something went wrong once every week for the first 2 months. then i got it all fixed and it ran pretty good. now it's having problems again. it's never clean anymore (black sucks), and it just causes headaches. i've been driving my dad's truck ('03 blazer ZR2) since this happened yesterday afternoon, which is nice of him to lend it to me. but he'll need it back for work on monday and i'll have to start bumming rides and spend more money on my car. i'm already broke because of the holidays. i owe $140 for car insurance in about a week and now i'm going to have to spend money on the car.

i started looking on autotrader today for another car... everything from V6 f-bodies (both bird and camaro) to mustangs. i was about ready to go buy a damn for sale sign, but then i decided to take my car for a drive, just to see if it's calmed down in the last 24 hours. i drive for 15 minutes, not a SINGLE problem. SES light turns off. all is good, right? well, on the way home, it starts missing again. knocking starts from under the hood. i parked it. it's not going anywhere but a shop. damn car. :(

First thing - wires. They have a funny tendency to burn up way too fast, even if you route them carefully. My previous set burned up in 5 months in WINTER.

Change wires and I almost guarantee you it'll fix it.
If not, it's most likely coil, get codes scanned, replace the coil for that cylinder. Uusally, though, coils go out and stay that way.

Engine knocking sound is misfire (it's not engine, it's your exhaust by the way). Stalling is misfire.

Forget the shop, too. You can buy 20$ wires at autozone/advance auto parts and replace them in 30 mins yourself. Make sure you use silicone grease on connectors. It's like 99c at any parts store.

Replacing coil is about 10 minute job, too. And it costs only 20$ for GPSorensen at advance.

I know what you mean man.

My car died twice without misfiring or anything lol. Just cruising down a street, go to give the car some gas and it's not on lol.
As the back of my shirt says... "If it has tits or tires, its gonna cause you problems."

Seems like a cheap fix though, misfire can only be a couple things Maybe you ought to put some sort of heat shield over your wires?

edit - btw if it's for sale, I'll buy it for $50. :D

ka50-i already replaced wires and plugs a couple weeks ago... last time, it was cyl #5 that was missing. even after replacing the plugs and wires, the misfire was there, but not as bad. fuel injector cleaner fixed it, so i assumed cyl #5 had a dirty injector. i don't want to go and spend money on coils right now. if that doesn't fix it, i'd have just spent money i didn't have to and i'm very very tight on money at the moment due to the holidays and car insurance. i spent $25 on a full set of new wires and $5 per plug. i know that's not a waste because they'll eventually need to be changed, but after the holidays are over, that won't seem like a whole lot to me anymore. a 16-year-old's paycheck isn't very big. ;)

bats-$50 will buy you no more than the CD player... which will be for sale after christmas, as my big sis is getting me a new one. :D

check your coils really simple to do with an ohmeter. or you can even take them to autozone and they'll test them for free.

Sounds sort of what was happening to me.. My #3 cyl was down. I have a 94 3.4l. Replaced coils/plugs/wires/changed the #3 injector....Fixed nothing. Before all that i did try sea foam.

Me and my dad finally gave up on trying to fix it ourselves.Sent it to Jim Price in Charlottesville where my dads friend works. Got us a good price.Come to find out my car had a vacum leak and computer had went bad. I suggest trying to get your computer tested, with injectors and listen/feel for vacum leaks. I drove my car runnin on 5 cyl for a long *** time.Dont be afraid to drive it. Its either gonna go or blow. Cars run fine running on 5 as long as injector isnt spraying fuel.

                      good point...

have all these recent problems been on the last tank of gas? Not too uncommon just to get a bad tank of gas, and make your car run like a$$.

Sorry to hear it but these cars can be a pain at times...

Check your cat? That sounds like the systems of a clogged one.

Is the car a lemon? Where'd you buy it?

i did when i changed the plugs and wires. once the injector was cleaned, the car ran like it was brand new until this happened...

                          </font>
no, not just this tank of gas. i've ran it down to almost E, then refilled twice. the injector cleaner had a gas treatment in it that removes water as well.

the cat's fine. exhaust smells normal and if the cat was clogged, i don't think ONLY cyl #5 would be having trouble. the car isn't a lemon. it ran great for months. when i first got it, the things i had to change on it were just normal maintainence things. i bought it at a very big chrysler dealership. probably the most respected dealership in my county.

                              I replaced all my ignition.

                              Still has a misfire.

I believe either a sensor is bad or cylinder 6 injector is bad.

                              It's always on cylinder 6, the bastard!@!@!
