  • Video Burning Help

I need help with burning video from an experienced person. My drive is capable of burning DVD but I cant seem to get it working. I took a video I downloaded from Limewire and put it on Windows Movie Maker. I used a Philips DVD+RW disc. I put the disc in and starting burning my video. It took 20 mins to download a video just under 5 mins in length. At the end of the burning, It said there was an error in burning the video. I just cant seem to burn video. Anyone have any experience in this and can inform me on some steps to take. Am I using the right disc? Any recommended programs I can use? I use RealOne to burn music and that works just fine, its just the video I need help with.

    Thanks in advance

If you have AIM, IM me and maybe the conversation will be a little easier on how I can solve my problem.

First off, if you want to burn it so it will play in your DVD player, you're gonna be better off using a DVD-R, those are the most compatible types of media. You may or may not be able to play a DVD+RW in your DVD player.

Secondly, you're gonna need some kind of DVD authoring program. This will allow you to build the menu of the DVD and it will convert the video to MPEG2 so your DVD player can see it.

Here's a link to a free trial of DVD Workshop. It's a very powerful, and very easy to use. In fact, I used to use this for my business, which involves authoring professional DVDs (see sig). I only switched because I started using Sony Vegas, which integrates editing and authoring saving me a lot of time.

If you don't want to mess around with menus, You just drag the video you want on the DVD onto the timeline at the bottom of the screen, and then burn.

Ok thanks a lot. I finally burned a video and it worked. I used the DVD+RW and it played in RealOne and not in my DVD Player. So I guess I will go out and get some DVD-R's like you said and see how they work in my DVD player. Please tell me you know of a program I can use that is free. The DVD Workshoped worked fine, but I am giving it up after the trial, do you know of any free programs, I dont care if its not as easy to use as DVD Workshop. Well thanks again.

It played on your computer using RealPlayer? Do you have any other actual DVD playing software on you computer? Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but it sounds like maybe your making a data DVD with a video file on it, instead of a video DVD.

isnt a dvd a little overkill for a 5 minute video??? and another ver yuser friendly program is nero, thats all I use and it handles everything, from making "backup" copies of actual dvd's to burning music...check it out.

Well I did the 5 minute video just to see if it worked. I didnt feel like spending more time if it wasnt going to work. Plus it is rewritable. Damn, I didnt know Nero worked, I have that, I will have to give it a go.

I got my DVD-R today and burning a video was successful. Thank you for your help.

I just tried a burning a video with multiple clips, and it failed me. Are there any certain types of files that will not work?

That I don't know. All I've ever used with it have been AVI files.
