• Arctic silver 5 owns

So I was running my fan with just junky silicone thermal compound and the CPU core was running from 55-60 degrees celsius at load, 45-50 at idle. That seemed a bit much.

So my friend got his xp 3200+ in today and had ordered some arctic silver 5 along with it. I took my fan off and cleaned all the white junk off my processor and the bottom side of my copper plate (I have a TR2-M1 fan which has a copper plate screwed to an aluminum heatsink, thermally bonded by silicone junk).

I then took off the copper plate from the heatsink, and cleaned the silicone junk from the the upside of the copper plate and the bottom of the heatsink.

After it was all clean, i put arctic silver 5 on the side of the copper that bonds to the aluminum heatsink. Then I put arctic silver 5 on the core and put the heatsink back on. Since then, after a heavy load the hottest I have seen it is about 46 degrees celsius and at idle it stay around 40 degrees celsius at the core.

That's awesome I think. Esp. when you consider when the system was watercooled the core ran around 37-38 at idle (just water to air...when it was near freezing water to water the core ran around 20 degrees celsius..cryo-water cooling is a hassle though).

Too bad you're not supposed to use it for long periods of time :(

I have that arctic silver 5 high density **** or whatever.. it does work quite well.

hmm... since this is a car related board i would hazard a guess that spark plug antiseize would probably make a good heat sink compound. however its probably conductive electrically so you might need to be careful with the amount you use.

I only use arctic silver, it's the best for overclocking! Add a thermaltake fan and your good to go!

Your are correct sir, they aren't...scottotech cryo-aquaeus water cooling is...but scott got tired of it.

TR2 is an offshoot of thermaltake..their junk is supposedly designed by thermaltake. My fan, the TR2-M1 is designed for up to a 3200+.

I kinda wish I had bought a volcano 12 (high rpm adjustable speed fan on full copper heatsink..the friend with the 3200+ has one), but this was less than half the price shipped with neato lights and it is within a few degrees celsius.

Here are pics of my new case and pretty lights (at the bottom):

I'm running the volcano 12 with a Silent Boost heatsink. Keeps mine very cool. Nice case btw, though the wires inside look like mine. Gotta clean em up!
