• Help! Windows Security Update..

I just installed all the critical updates for Windows and now I can't use Limewire anymore. I'm pretty sure that windows firewall thing is blocking limewire. I tried disabling the firewall but it still won't work. Help me! I need to download MUSIC!!!

And if you've already made the mistake of "updating" to SP2, reformat. SP1 is acceptable, SP2 is pure ****.

To the ones who are uninformed and do not know how to follow proper install procedures.

For some it's a necessary update, to others, it's not needed. What you stated is ignorant and uninformed.

Sorry, I'm sick of all the MS hating. You're using the operating system and are productive (most likely) because of it. If you don't like it, develop your own OS and prove me wrong that you won't be as productive. See how easy it is to promote and satisfy millions.

        Until then, K thx.

If it was service pack 2 some where on microsofts website is a list of programs what WILL NOT WORK. I think there some 80 some programs. You have to do a fresh install. sp2 info check out that link that may help you out .

            </font>
Ok, first of all I never said I hated MS. I simply stated that SP2, in my opinion (Which I AM entitled too) is crap. Secure? Very much so, but too much for the average user. I never bashed the OS, I said SP1 is good, so quit putting words into my mouth. I know enough about network security and system stability to recomend to someone that SP2 is not for them. I'm sick of having to explain to people why they can't run specific programs without modifying the SP2 firewall. SP2 security wise, gets an A+ in my book, very well done on that aspect. But too much for most.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, please research compatibility issues when it comes to Service Pack updates BEFORE installing them. Anyone that's spent any time in the IT industry knows (especially in large network applications) that SP's need to be researched and implemented correctly.

IT people fear SP's, because of these issues. :D

Limeware doesn't work after the install? Doesn't mean that the install is bad, or the pack is bad, you need to open certain ports to allow certain programs to communicate with their servers. Search Google for:
              Service Pack 2 compatibility programs
You might be amazed at the wealth of knowledge out there. Hope you find a solution.

It's a shame that the operator has problems with the OS. ;)

Didn't mean to personally attack you, it's just that you stated it's ****, which it really isn't to those who need the update. If it wasn't neceessary, Microsoft would have never released it. Jah know.

                              Dammit, we've done this before
                              1) Windows XP Service Pack 2 DOES NOT need to be installed on your computer
                              2) IF you pay attention when you go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com, you can actually specify not to install sp2 and install critical updates only.
                              3) I posted this before:

                              Agreed, really do your research.

The scary thing is that these articles are "LIVING DOCUMENTS" meaning that microsoft is updating them constantly as they find new programs that break.

(Check the last reviewed and revision numbers at the end of the article to see if it's been touched since I wrote this story.) Forty-five separate programs or platforms are mentioned in this article, some of which are security related. Surprisingly, numerous Microsoft programs or services also appear herein, including Visual Studio .NET, SQL, SMS 2003 Server, Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM), Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003, and Microsoft SNA 4.0 SP3, along with numerous third-party products.

Thirty-eight separate programs are mentioned in this article, many of which are security related.
