• Sloppy GM repair work

I've got GM 6 year / 100,000 mile protection plan. Over the past few months, I've been getting things done that are to be expected as the car is approaching six years old (window motors, blown speakers, headlight motors, power antenna).

But I noticed lately I had picked up some rattles in interior. Ok, the car will start to have some as it gets older, but still it is not right for what I've heard lately.

I looked around and found the following:

1. Replacement speakers not screwed in tightly - they buzzed loudly with bass tones.

2. Padding around speaker grilles ripped or not put back properly - creating a buzz sometimes and rattles.

3. My spare tire and jack not put back in correctly - creating squeaks and rattles.

4. Two of the little square cushion pads on the three pins that hold down the passenger side cover over the spare were missing. This created more rattles during driving and added to the plastic buzzing noises from speakers.

5. The little alarm unit that is supposed to be affixed to the rear passenger wheel well was knocked loose and hanging down. Presumably, this added to rattles when I go over bumps and also presumably doesn't help the motion sensor fuction of the alarm.

So, I've fixed all of these thing myself. But those GM dealer clowns are supposed to be doing this stuff correctly.

It seems now I can now drive again with no interior rattle (the catalytic converter is another matter ) and hear buzz-free bass again.

Another thing that still gets me was a few years ago when they replaced some sparkplugs, wires and coils under warranty. I got home and was looking at things and noticed the little shields around the new plugs were missing.

After calling up the service manager, he tells me he found the shields in the garbage where the mechanic had thrown them after working on my car. He put everything back as it should have been.

CLIFF NOTES: Rant about sloppiness of GM dealer warranty repairs.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

Bad GM dealer? No, sounds like you just got yourself a sloppy technician - not a sloppy shop.

Thats why they have a survey that gets sent out called TSI reports. It hurts them to get bad surveys sent back because GM/Chevy cuts back on the amount of money their shop & parts department gets every month for supplies/parts/tools/etc etc..

Take your business to another shop. The GMPP should be honored everywhere.

WEll, the trouble is this posts recaps my experience at several GM dealers:

Coral Springs Pontiac
Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet
Sherwood Pontiac

It is not one visit - this is a recurring pattern.

it's CSI, and no it doesnt really hurt the tech to much, because most of them arent on CSI bonuses, but the managers to lose out a good deal...and ya, what you got is expected from most dealers, you dont treat your employees right, they wont work right...so ya for the most part they are bad shops not tech's

We have, at our honda store, TSI, as well as CSI... One covers how we are with customer service and such and the other compares us money wise with other shops in our region You're right tho, CSI is the customer service survey but TSI also effects how much stock we can keep in parts as well as how much we get given to send guys to "Honda school" .. Which, I must say, is really a blast

I cannot wait until I have more tools/experience/money to move on to another shop personally
