I'm sick of magazines testing GM's brand new creations such as the Ecotec & Cobalt while Ford is relishing the performance of the Mustang SVT/Cobra/Saleen etc. All this additional revenue Ford is reaping with the new Mustang will definitely have them R&D guys taking their fair share of the money pie and release something else more sinister. All GM has to do is catch up on their earnings & unleash the Camaro/Firebird. I have no doubts that GM has realized what strategy works in the pony car wars, let's hope in the future they spank Ford lol. The Mustang is Ford's top seller and it's the only line of sports car they have. I don't think Thunderbird count.
Unless you count the Ford GT which is way out reach to 90% of the buyers.

I love reading these kinds of posts! Weither your a GM person or Ford person, Competition in car companies benefits all of us. If ford comes out with something bigger and better than everything else, GM will answer back and come out with something better than that, and than Ford or someone else will build something better than that. And It just keeps on going and going.
The '07 Cobra deserves some respect. Regardless of your car company loyalty.http://www.cardomain.com/ride/857214

I laugh at many posts in this topic. Why? Because of all the arguments about NA vs Blown. Ford VS GM. V6 vs V6...
Let me tackle that first one though.. The Ford 3.8 is a MUCH older design than any of you seem to think, they just "tweeked" and updated it throughout the years much as the GM 3.8... But for some reason, there are PLENTY of faster Ford 3.8s than there are GM 3.8s, I wonder why.
As for LT1/LS1 vs modular mustangs, the SN95 mustang was designed and built on a shoestring budget of $700 million. Compare that to the Ecotec design budget of upwards of $4 billion or the design budget of the Contour/Mystique of $6 billion dollars. If you ask me, for a car designed, including motors, with only $700,000,000 they did a DAMN fine job!
And by the way, SVT isn't an "aftermarket", its a division of Ford. And the original Corvette was a 6 cylinder turd, what made the 64 Mustang any different?
As for the guy who said his brother sold his Probe.. He didn't sell his Ford, he sold his Mazda. Maybe neither of you bothered to look at the build sticker, it reads "MANUFACTURED BY MAZDA for FORD MOTOR CO." =) I had one myself. Reliable as HELL.
And yes, I've worked on Fords. My current toy is an 86 Mustang LX. Whatchawannado?Mustangs.. Come to the darkside...

The dark side is the path to the shadow of greed. =D

Ford 3.8 is faster. I seriously doubt that. How about a 6 sec. Grand National for your stomach. Check out www.3800pro.com and look at the timeslip there. You can't look at ours here because very few here are hardcore. Besides did you notice that Stang V6 are using 4.3 crate V6 engine. This would usually belong to a Ranger.
Ever look at KIT car magazine. Notice what old Ford cars are using. Chevy crate engine. Now why aren't they using Ford engine if it's so gooood?!!
Ford sells there Mustang cheap and so therefore the quality is the same. Just look at the 5.0 and how inconsistent it is. Like I said, my brother in-law's 02 GT turning 36k and already had couple of work done.
How about '00 Stang Cobra. Exhaust problem..it dynoes at 250 rwhp. BBK pointed that out to Ford and bamm problem fix and what do they get, 276 rwhp.
Cobra '03...electrical problem.
Ford GT...electrical problem.
Expedition...crumpling roof top...I'm not even going to mention Firestone, because that's not Ford's fault.
Ford Escape...axle problem and roll over problem.
SVT contracted by Ford, yes. But did you know that they also built an 11 sec. NA Firebird V6. SVT didn't claim it but they did it. You didn't know that huh.
I got nothing against Ford seriously-- but for someone to say Ford better than GM...HELL you better back it up.

So, combining all of the "points" made by people in this topic, we get this: Ford is better than GM, GM is better than Ford. The original Corvette was a V6.
You really can't get your hopes up for something you can't control. If history repeats itself, then GM will have a new affordable rear drive, big engine, good looking mustang killer within 4-5 years. But, with GM acting the way it is now, i'm thinking the most we'll see is the Saturn Sky and probably a new, even more feminine turbo Cobalt to compete with the SRT-4.Black \'94 Trans Am A4- SLP CAI & Loudmouth
Red \'93 Firebird A4- Ram Air under the WS6 hood, !cat, exhaust.

LOL, SVT contracted by Ford? No, they ARE Ford. Just like SVO in the 80s.. They are Fords version of Dodges SRT (Street & Racing Technology)... LOL...
11 second NA Firebird? Yeah, "wont admit it but I know about it!!!!!"
And no, I'm not talking about Buick 3.8s I'm talking about 3800 motors in V6 F-Bodies vs 3.8 Ford motors in Mustangs, Thunderbirds & Cougars. There are quite a few 3.8 Mustangs in the 11s in the 1/4 mile and only 2 V6 f-bodies accomplishing that feat. Theres a handful of 3.8 Thunderbird SC's in the 10s as well... ZERO 3.8 F-Bodies in the 10s
And point to me the leectrical problems in the Ford GT/03+ Cobras.. Explain yourself, because everyone I know with 03+ cobras are having absolutely zero problems with them. Look at the 5.0 and how inconsistent it is? What about em? I have one myself and I don't see where theres anything thats "inconsistent" .. Kit cars are that, kit cars. But maybe you haven't noticed there are plenty of "Supercars" out there that use Ford motors, including Shelby American, Koenigsegg, and even Panoz all use Ford motors. Why is it then, if GM produces so much better parts and cars, that majority of the fastest small block GMs out there are using Ford 9" rear ends instead of GM 12 bolts? And no, restricted exhausts from the factory with upwards of 4 to 6 cat converters (yes, I've seen it) to meet strict emissions requirements aren't exactly "problems" if you ask me. Besides, name a SUV that DOESNT have a roll over problem.. GM, Ford, Daimler-Chrysler, Mercedes, Porsche... All of them have the same problem, high center of gravity and drivers who think they are Mario Andretti taking the corners at Infineon Raceway. And I totally dont know wtf you are talking about with "4.3 crate engines" ...
