• Anyone collect swords?

Anyone into collecting swords? I've started to get into this, wondering if anyone else does the same.

I collect a lot of swords. It's a very expensive hobby and I haven't bought many new swords since getting my car. I can't afford to collect swords and mod my car .

I have a few. Two Ninja Swords, A Samurai Katana(it is put up now, way too sharp to hang around my room) A Dragon Hilted Dirk (longer than a dagger, but shorter than a short sword) And a Dragon Hilt Long Sword. I usually buy one or two every time the Gun and Knife Show comes to the civic center.

I have two katanas and one Chinese broadsword with a dragon's-head handle. The katanas are by far the most beautiful and most useful (if you're into that sort of thing) swords. Collecting them can be expensive, but like any hobby, it has more to do with the quality of items you collect. You can get cheap daishos (katana sets containing three swords of various sizes) on eBay, or you can find genuine swords made by true masters with historical provenance, or anything in between. Try to stay with swords made of 440 or better steel and that are full-tang (the blade doesn't stop at the handle but instead is inside it all the way down to the bottom).

I have a small collection. I just bought a Windlass Cutlery Rapier. Very beautiful and very good quality. My next purchase will be a battle ready broadsword from Starfire. Collecting good stuff is incredibly expensive as opposed to picking up the $40 crap from fleamarkets. They can be fun to, since you get all kinds of freaky designs and stuff, but just not the same as picking up a quality piece and knowing it could actually be used.

Those fleamarket swords last me maybe a week before I break them. It's very rare that you'll find any sort of quality blade at a flee market.

More recently I've started collecting some armor. I'm making a set of wisby armor right now and I want to get a set of pauldrons/gorget and gauntlets to match it but unfortunately there is a three month backorder list. I won't even remember I've ordered that armor by the time it gets here so I just can't justify ordering it.

My buddy gets drunk way often on the weekends then usually ends up watching the Home Shopping Network and buying weapons. He's ****in nuts.

So far he has a walking stick that splits into two katanas along with a knife set and a duplicate of the Blade Sword. I told him that he got ripped off because it didn't have the security feature that Snipes had in the movie.

I think an even more interesting question is does anyone practice with swords? Over the weekend my brother and myself were in the attic and found two 4.5 foot pieces of wood. So we made leather handles for them and proceeded to beat the s*** out of each other. I can see where skill with one takes much patience to learn. My hat is off to anyone that can use one with good skill.

Ive competed in padded weapons tournaments, but never had a sword that I really cared to nick to hell beating it against another piece of steel. I dated a girl that was on the U.Penn fencing team... she was pretty scary.
