• Boxing With Friends?

Haha me and my friends have been boxing every friday. We will all meet up at friends house and go at it in back yard with gloves only. I thought they were jokin untill i stopped by today. They actually boxed. I thought i would be good at boxing because of my size. Between it being my first time boxing and everyone else having boxed before it wasnt pretty. The first match i had was against this dude i hate (he threw a sting bomb in my car). I had no clue he could fight. He clocked me 1 time on left side of cheek rocked me stunned me then right side stunned me then he rocked my nose up. I didnt know he busted my nose till i got home. I have dried up blood in right nostril. 2nd match was more of a bull **** round gainst friend he got me pretty good on left i stuck em a few times. Then last match was with another friend. Hes pretty short and all he was doin was windmilling me so finally i just started throwin upper cuts. Got him off me real quick. Just wondering if anyone else boxes and any tips for me not getting rocked so bad. Im still dizzy as im typing this. Im about to go to sleep i hope i dont have a concussion. Any tips will be appreciated along with any boxing tips. Web sites with tips will be nice too.

I honestly think you have to get used to punching with gloves.. there is a big difference when you're throwing a punch with a big *** glove on your hand.

If you are only semi-serious, maybe pick up a set of used gloves and start hitting a bag...

And get rid of your glass jaw ;)

Me and my friends box and wrestle a bit too. I'm 6'4 and at first I was gettin pounded by a shorter friend of mine. I got low and now he can't land a punch. For taller guys their stomach area is normaly unprotected, a few good hits there should piss him off. It's lots of fun, but be careful, and wear your mouth guards . Have fun.

The reason the first fight got me so bad was because he has height on me and his reach is alot farther then mine. Plus the first fight i wasnt keeping my gloves up. Once i got fighting other people was practicing keeping my gloves up. 15 oz. gloves do weight your *** down.

In high school a few of us on the soccer team would box before practices. My only lose came to a guy with arms a hell of a lot longer than me. It's too damn hard to hit someone with long arms.

I was a semi-pro martial arts fighter for a year, then went pro for 2 more. No pads, no gloves...the only gear we wear is a cup. I developed my own strategy which seems to work pretty well, if you can go at least 3 rounds.

first round - stick and move! spend a lot of time dancing and make your opponent chase you to wear him down a little, and when it's open, pound on the outside of his arms (bicep and forearm area). this will be your ONLY target in the first round.

second round - keep hammering those arms. by this point his arms will be getting a little tender, and eventually he'll widen them out to block. when he gives you that opening, hammer down on his chest and abs. aim for the diaphragm, which is right below the "v" where your ribs meet in the middle. a hard enough shot will instantly knock the breath out of him. if not, move on to round 3.

third round - this is an all-in-one round. start with a few shots to the arms, then go back to the midsection quickly. unless he's a complete moron, he'll go to guarding those abs. when he stoops over a little to protect his midsection, nail him with a left hook followed by a right uppercut. that should be all she wrote, or at least put you in prime position for a KO.

A good all-around tip is to practice those combinations! Do it with your gloves on, this will help build punching power.

I used to have a "fight club" with my friends. I Run about 4 miles a day, so I have great endurance. I used to just run around and jump around to let my opponent get tired, then I would start to actually fight. I am a terrible fighter though, so that only worked sometimes.

Don't make it into a permanent habit to box. It makes you go retarded after a while. After about 6 months of friday night fights, I started misspelling my name on worksheets at school. My flight instructor would tell me to make a climbing left turn, and I would dive the aircraft into a right spiral.

Rest assured though, my retardedness is going away slowly.
