  • Mis-Fire help FAST please

1st i know this is in the wrong spot but i need some advise. Like fast

ok i was driving yesterday and stoped at walmart, car was running fine.
did my shopping started the car and barly running!
err limped it home on the way it had NO power and would almost stall at every stop, it did stall a few times.

    weird thing number 1:
the stock tach reads fine but, my aftermarket one only reads 2/3 of what the stock reads

now i got home hooked up HPT and i'm geting missfires on 2 and 5 but to me it feels like there not fireing at all because the car is not stuttering or loosing power like 1 misfire would. it just feels slugish. also the exuast sound alot 4 banger

now i know its not the wires or plugs

it could be the coil but with my tach only reading 2/3 i think the coil pack it not even firing at all if thats the case is it my ICM?

please help 2 hour trip in the moring... i think its the icm but it could be the coil pack..... want an other person opinon before i tear into it

    I vote coil.

    stock tach is VERY inaccurate.

if its happening with 2 cylinders on the same coil pack, then id say first check that coil.. if not, prolly the iginition module. but the coil is a lot cheaper so check that first. try and swap that coil with another and see if the problem switches to those cylinders. good luck man

        What he said.

Swap the coils and see what it does...

had the same thing happen to me, car running just fine, suddenly have to come to a stop for some old bluehair. Start to go agian, bam studdering misfiring. Drove straight to autozone to scan the codes and find out which coil, swapped it in the parking lot and back to normal. I have had 2 of the 3 stock ones die on me since buying the car in april 2000

i know you say no to the wires, but check them anyway. one day i parked my car and it ran great till i parked it. one of the wire loom holder things came loose and when i parked the wire just sat there and burned. i started her up and barely made it home on 4 cyl. and depending on if a certain coil pack says 2 & 5 on the same one i would say the coil is toast.

              good luck.

Yeah, had the same coil problem here,

Just get a new coil pack and you should be fine.
