  • 110 mph.. that's it???

I was driving in to work today and a white car wanted to play. I figure, it's sunday 5 am we are just about the only two out on the freeway. So I start to slowly increase speed ( I have found that most people will bail with a slow climb once you get to about 90 or so, it's less of a "street racing charge" gives them more time to think about it) Well We get to 80, 90 , 100 then 110 (at this point my foot is touching the floor). He hang's for about 5 seconds and then drops off. Shortly after I noticed something, I have had my foot to the ground for about 2 minutes and it's not going any faster then 110? It's stock and I know that the V6 isn't what most would call a race car but 110? That's it? I took my crappy 325i to 120 once and it still had more to give. I Just expected more out of my bird.

What do you guys top out at?

So what were the rpms at 110? Did you feel it cutting off fuel?

I'm not sure what the speed limiter is,havent tried it yet I think either 113 or 118. There are aftermarket products that can remove the limiter though.

I would assume if you're running a high rear gear like 3.7 then that would effect your top speed.

            Fifth gear is overdrive.

Just because its electronically limited to a certain mph does not mean it cannot exceed that mph.

BTW, my car can do 150 +

Early 4th Gens came standard with S rated tires, and the later ones with T rated. So these cars were electronically limited to their rated tire speed. Even the V8 cars that did not get the optional Z-rated tires were limited.

find someone with a tuner with year...

                  buy a tuner
get a mail order tune with TSP
guess a hypertech but those things suck for the cost.

I buried my speedo the other day still pulling strong past 118, but didn't go much past.

your car in stock form should have been limited to 118

if youre smart, you wont make a habit of testing that fact.
