  • compression ratio ??????'s

    I know what compression is like compression stroke so i got that much but what do the number that go along with it mean? like 9.7:1?Sorry if its a stupid question, just trying to learn.

      if ya don't ask, you'll never know. ;)

      10:1 = 10 compressed to 1 ("ratio")

      Picture a cylinder....

      Take the max area available at BDC (Bottom Dead Center) or the bottom of the stroke.

      Then "compress it" to what space is available at TDC (Top Dead Center) or the top of the stroke.

      That's your ratio. 10 compressed to the area of 1 where 10 is a relative term. ....

      If you're a visual person, take a column and divide it into equal sections of 10. 10 compressed to 1 ... and so on. [img]smile.gif[/img]
