I think i will price something out on www.dell.com
to be honest, i would probably like to have a name like dell rather than emachine, which is probably stupid but idk.
Well RAM is different from a hard drive. You store your pictures on your hard drive. More RAM just lets you run your programs faster.

Just think of 2.8g P4 H/T (Hyper-Threading) is like a camaro with y87 option...and 2.8g p4 is like a stock camaro.....lol... :D

i used emachines from 1999 to 2002. I was so pissed at the end i felt like throwing it out from my second floor window... i have been using HP for last 3 years...great computers...no problems at all....then i bought dell laptop...omg...so many trouble....i am never buying dell again..check out this site ...they have some good computers... link 1 <--i bought my computer from here

Don't get a celeron. They're crap and just plain suck. We have 2.8G celerons at work, and they're SOOOOOO SLOOOOW.

BTW, your links don't work.

Cool. This is all good info. Im shopping for a computer for my parents right now. From what I heard... all of the computers manufacturers have come a long way from the past. I guess they are pretty much even across the board now. (Compaq, HP, Emachine, Gateway, Dell) I don't know if this is true anymore, but I had a compaq, it was garbage, had a HP, it was garbage, friend had an Emachine, garbage, friend had a Gateway, seemed fine, I had a Sony for 6 years, excellent, but you pay out the *** for it too. (Garbage as in the fact all the internal components just crapped out left and right)

If any of the computer people here can agree that all the manufacturers are relativley the same now, I'd go with Gateway. You can get one with an equivalent processor that Camaro is talking about, for less money then a Dell, and with more features. Check it out. Thats what I chose for my parents.

If there's one nearby try the build to order kiosk at a Circuit City. They only do HP and Compaq, but you can get a pretty decent P4 for a lot less than the ones in the store. Dell doesn't impress me too much, but I do have one of their business laptops that's been good.

Emachines rock. I had one for about 4-5 years now. Eventually, I upgraded it with new parts. The only thing about changing out parts is it wont work if it doesn't have the emachine motherboard. So you have to buy the motherboard and hdd at the same time, and possibly get a new case if the new motherboard wont fit.

gateway is bad too, the only one i really trust of the main manufactures would be hp, but if i was buying a computer for myself, i would go with www.cyberpowerinc.com they make a quality product i would trust them. dell is also junk, i build myself, but if i were to get a laptop it would be from cyberpower. i have a pentium 4 3.2 GHZ with 1.5 gb of ram, with dvd burner, 410 GB of hard drive space and a sapphire radeon 9800 pro 256 bit 256MB, prepped for water cooling, but that was never to be, i really havent done a thing to it for about a year, maybe longer, i pretty much lost interest, it was absolutely top of the line when i stopped doing stuff to it, and i still dont regret it.

also speaking from experience, to get the most bang for your buck i would go with AMD, hands down

my bare bones desktop @ home has a 2.8 celeron & my del pod (cpt 600 laptop) has a celeron i it w/no probs. don't be hatin'.

If you do want the better chip, go w/AMD. THe p4 rated @ liek 3.2ghz = AMD 2.6ghz or something like that, plus AMD is even cheaper iirc.
