• Selling the bird to buy a Mustang GT(pics)

After I blew something in the top end of my motor I ran sealent through the system and the firebird is running strong right now but I am afarid it won't hold up in the long run any more so I decided to trade it in.

I just got back from looking at a 97 mustang GT.. the car has 63k on it with the smaller 4.6L V8. Leather interior power everything and a 5 speed of course . I took it for a test drive and it is pretty damn quick.. runs like my V6 with a 100 shot of nitrous fed into it. The reason I didn't buy it on the spot was due to a bad throwing bearing in the clutch. The salesperson told me it is covered under warranty and will be replaced, I replied that I want it in writing by the shop before I purchase the car.

I am waiting for a call, he told me I would be recieving it tonight so hopefully I will have good news by tonight

How much? I'd try to get a 99+ GT as they have more HP.

    BTW, it's only a 4.6L ;)

so you are getting rid of a quicker v6 car for the slow mustang, what a shame, lol. Those GTs are turtles and def. slower than the camaro. I understand why you didn't want to hang onto the camaro though after messing it up with nitrous. Good luck with the rustang.

You should really look for a 99+ GT though. They can be had for cheap

Well, I like it anyway. Nice color, looks clean, sounds better than a fbody v6 and most GM V8's, and who gives a crap if its not faster than a 6 with nitrous. He's got the speed on hand and isn't throwing money out the window everytime he wants to go fast. Im guessing it may be a little more reliable also then a bottle fed v6. Im sure if the money was available, he'd get a 99+ and wouldn't need to be told to do so.

i wouldnt say they are deffinetly slower than a v6 camaro, esp w/ the 5spd, not saying they are a lot faster, but still.

Thanks for pointing out the money issue I would buy a 99+ if I could afford one but I can't. I am a college student and I don't have a ton of money to throw around. I drove my v6 with a 100 shot and the mustang is faster then my v6 was running the 100 shot and will be much more reliable.

I am paying 8,500 w/ out taxes & tags.. if they get the issue with the throw bearing cleared up that is. If not I will keep looking for cars.

When I buy it I will get it down to the track ASAP.

oh yeah.. i can live with 14s

if they dont fix that bearing issue maybe look at lt1 birds, you can find decent one in the price range you're in w/ that GT

Birds and Z28s were the first things I looked at.. I couldn't find one in my price range on cars.com autotrader.com and the local mags with between 40-70k miles on it within 100 miles so I went with my next choice. I would much rather own a TA or Z28 but I cannot find one in my area.. I would like to get the firebird off the road soon.

I've driven that kind of style GT before. It feels fast because it is more nimble than our Fbody and handles better on the corner. But it is a low 15 and high 14 sec. car.

But hey, it's a Mustang GT. That thing is loaded with aftermarket go fast parts.

                        Good luck man.

Well I took your advice and looked up a little higher and found a red 99GT for 9,999 with 74k on it. A little more then what I wanted to pay but I can afford it. I am going down tonight to take a look at it.

They just got the car in and they havn't written the specs up yet so they are not sure if it is auto or manual.. I am hoping it is manual. We'll see.

                              Was the mustang stock?
