The LS1 IS a much better engine that Fords modular engine. Even the DOHC in my Cobra is no match for an LS1. That, and as far as N/A goes, my engine is more or less tapped to the max from the factory. Quite expensive and difficult to get much more N/A HP. Strapping on a SC is a different story though..... but thats a $4k min. hit to the checkbook. I do like the handling and nimble character of the Cobra though...it feels like a much smaller car. In that aspect it is more fun than the WS6 I was looking at. HOWEVER, I wish I found those deals when I was shopping.... there wasnt a LS1 T/A within 100miles to be had under $20k. The one that I did find, the dealership wanted to screw me over on my 'bird as a trade-in, whereas the (ironically) Chevy dealership that had the Cobra gave me quite a good deal.

You can do a head and cam swap on the 4.6L with the engine in the car. Its actually quite easy to do from what I understand since the cam is in the head, and they are relatively accessible compared to the LS1 that is tucked under the engine bay of the F-bods.

ooohhh bullllshhiiiitt about the LS1 vs Ford Mod motors..

The LS1 against a Ford mod-motor stock, yeah, does do better powerwise N/A... But if you compare everything about the cars, such as ride quality, handling, comfort --- the Mustang/Cobra gets the nod.

But who here leaves their car stock? Give a mod motor an upgraded fuel system and a shot of giggle gas and you're owning LS1s left and right - PI headed or not. MUCH cheaper than a blower.

Really want to own em? Slap on a blower -- whether its belt or exhaust driven, supercharged Ford mod motors have proven to be so good the Koenigsegg uses them exclusively in their ulta high performance cars. When was the last time GM could say the same about their LS1 motors? *shrug*

Stock for stock, yea the LS1 is a better motor. But the stang has a better feel. Fbodies feel like you're driving a boat. Also, the Fbodies weigh about 2-300lbs more then the mustangs. LS1s respond well to NA mods, H/C ect. The modular responds well to FI mods, nitrous, sc, turbo. And If you look hard enough, you can find a used blower kit for the stang for around $2k.

Spend 2-3k on H/C for the LS1 and you get 400-450 HP

Spend 2-3k for a blower for the stang, you get around 400-450 HP.

And please don't get into how the fbody interior is better. They both are made of crappy plastic. But I can say, I don't have to worry about shifting around my large drink in the mustang.

And oh yea, easy access to spark plugs>* I changed the plugs in the stang in about 40 minutes.

show me a blower kit for 2-3K and I'll buy one now. Everything Ive been looking at is $4k+. If I do go that route, Id love to get ahold of a Kenne Bell. Talk about a flat torque curve!!

Oh... and the interior of my Cobra IS much nicer than the 'bird..... especially with the 2-tone leather/suede seats. love it.

My wife can fit all of her photo equipment in our stang. It's like playing tetris, but it fits.

Besides, it's bigger then the non-existant trunk of the Fbody.

Like I said everyone has there opinions.. I myself like to go fast  so I bought a F-body!! I mean hell my 2000 T/A has a cat back, Long tubes, and lid.. on motor it pust down 342rwhp, on a 100shot it puts down 450.. You cant beat that.. 1000.00 dollars in mods and I bought the car for 7500.00.. Show me a 2000 GT mustang with 58,000 miles you can buy and with a 1000.00 in mods you can do that too!!

It's funny how 2 Stang owners are bagging another mustang owner who happens to own a Cobra by the way: Top of the line Mustang.

I guess the darkside has a shade of gray after all.

I agree though that Stang is oozing with aftermarket parts where you could pick and choose your poison, but a better engine, no.
