• Convertible top up or down?

This question kind of relates to the truck's tailgate being up or down myth. What do ya'll think would be better for a convertible, top up or down for better gas mileage or speed or whatever the myth is? I'm assuming top up, but I just wanted some opinions from ya'll.

I would assume up (less drag)..

I wouldn't spend to much thought on this one. You got the top so drop it!

the top is almost always down on my camaro.. havn't noticed any real difference in fuel economy.. sounds crazy but my car feels more stable with the top down at interstate speeds(maybe more downforce??i don't know)

Top up. The car also drives alittle faster with the top up, especially in the higher speeds (110+) just make sure you don't have anything in the car with you with the top down when you go for that top speed run.. things get thrown around a bit.

Of course its very minimal...even if it was a substantial loss in fuel economy, its a convertible...so screw the expense .

Yeah, I know its not a big difference, I was just wondering because it came across my mind. But anyway, its always going to be down this summmer either way.

Actually, mythbuster busted the tailgate down gets better milage myth.

The tailgate up gets better milage then it does down.

It has to do with the vortex air "bubble" created when the gate is up. When the gate is up, it creates an "air bubble" between the gate and the cab. This pushes air over the bed completely and allows for less drag.

When you have the gate down, the vortex bubble isn't there, and air drops off the back of the cab into the bed creating more drag.
