I talked to the dealer yesterday and he told me I could'nt touch a new C6 for under $50k, and that I would'nt pay less than MSRP because of availability, demand, blah blah blah.

I checked yahoo, and it looks like a base model MSRP's at $43k (invoice $38k).

If I ate Ramen noodles for awhile & cleared my garage, I could probably swing a $40k price tag. Is this dealer giving me a load of BS, or am I SOL for finding a reasonably priced new C6 until next year??

Dealers have the final say in how much you get a car for. GM released a reasonably priced supercar, but the dealers are ALL going to jack the price waaay up to make as much profit as they can.

Good luck finding a dealer that will actually sell a vette for msrp.

I remember when the 03 eaton blown cobras were going for 37-45K, and thier MSRP was waaay less.

The Prowlers were that way too. When I bought my bird the dealer had one on the showroom floor. He told me that they were having no trouble making a 20k profit on the cars.

Generally Vette's go for well over MSRP. The only time I can think of that they didn't is right after the dot com bubble burst.

If they can get 50 or 60 for them, why would they sell you one for 40?

True what everyone has said, especially b/c they're so new. You should wait a few years, then they'll be willing to sell at msrp or below. My C5 was new, it listed a $42k, but i got them to sell it at $37k. Good luck, it looks to be an awesome car.

Maybe the price will drop some when the Z06 comes out?

Good luck, maybe you can get give in if you let them know you will walk out with the car that day if they play ball with you.

Try e-mailing every dealer you're willing to drive to. It's a little different, but my friend ordered an 05 Mustang GT last October and two dealers wouldn't budge on the $3,000 markup over sticker, and another dealer gave almost $1,000 below sticker. It helped that his mom bought one too, but dealers vary a lot.

If I were in the market for a Corvette, it'd be a C5, possibly slightly used. The ideal would be a 2002+ Z06 in Millenium Yellow. :D
