  • Check out what happened on the way to FL

So were in South Carolina, on I-95 doing 80 mph. Its pretty early, so most of us are sleeping, then, WHAM.

    Click for pic.

Yep, the entire wheel came off. As we were slowing down, I watched the tire haul a$$ past us and off into the woods. For whatever reason, the lug nuts were loose and eventually the wheel wobbled free enough to snap the bolts. We spent an hour on the side of the road looking for this wheel and tire that went shooting into the woods. The girls were snapping the pictures as the guys were walking thru mud looking for the tire, so I dont have any good pics besides what you see.

So that means unfortunatley I didnt get a picture of this completley stock looking state trooper camaro that pulled off to help us. Even the Z28 badges were ripped off (I could hear it was an 8 from when he took off). Tinted windows to hide the lights inside. Man, I woulda had no idea if he was cruisin behind me, or beside me, or whatever... In NY, State Troopers cannot have unmarked cars.

So yea, interesting ride... By the way, the rim was pretty well destroyed and unusable when we found it.

$120.00 bucks for the not even 2 mile tow, and 65 bucks to replace the bolts. What were we doing in South Carolina? Passing thru on I-95 to Florida...

We rode on the brake drum to a stop, quite a long distance, and the brake drum is totaly fine besides being a little scuffed.

Well, I wasnt driving, so I dont know if there was a wobble in the wheel or anything, but I know I didnt feel the truck shaking, until about a minute before the wheel fell off. I remember sitting there wondering if something was wrong, or if the road was all ****ed up at that point. But it wasnt shaking violently, only shaking as if we had an unbalanced tire. Then something shiny caught my eye and I forgot all about it. Then it happened.

I already went and came back. Remember that post about which beach in Florida was better? Daytona, or Clearwater? Well we went to Clearwater, and yea, it was much nicer.

                Traffic sucks in Florida.

Glad to hear Clearwater worked out for you. Also glad the wheel incident did not cause a wreck for you.

As for traffic - Central Flrida has some of the worst traffic in the country. I've driven in many parts of the US and Central Florida is awful for traffic.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

I saw a completely unmarked z28 with its lights and siren on. They go so fast, that you hear a WOOOSH, then a few seconds later you hear the siren. White, completely unmarked, blacked out. How many race challenges do you think they get?

None. No serious race challenges at least. I had a poster of a Camaro cop car before, but I've also seen Ram Air Trans Am's...man that thing looked vicious. I'd hate to be pulled over with that thing.
