Hehe no offense but you guys are idiots if you think you will keep your car for 20 years and they will still be running.

          What about all the cars that are out there that are pre 86? They're over 20 years old and still running....

            </font>
How many of those that are still running have never had a major failure? And if they weren't restored or had excellent upkeep, they probably look like ****.

            I'll list the major things needed to be replaced/repaired with my 96 when I sold it. The rear main seal was leaking so bad, I'd go through a quart of oil ever week or so. I needed a new headgasket, had a collapsed lifter, new steering rack, new shocks/springs, and a diff seal. That's just the major things. On to the minor things. Center console was almost split in half, ebrake spring fell off, holy carpet, cracked dash, DS seal was cracked (2 pc DS) valve cover gasket, syncros were on their way out, probably another 20k before they failed (technically, this falls under major failure) I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting.

              When I bought the '87 LT in my sig 1.5 years ago it had 164k on the original LG4, and all it needed to be back in fine running form was new head gaskets and valve cover gaskets. Not bad for a $250 car, eh? :D

                </font>
There are plenty. All depends on how much mileage is driven on the car per year. But so what if they have had a major repair? They're still on the road. If someone is intent on keeping a car so bad then they will do what is necessary to keep it running right.

                  Well i really dont care that GM is pushing back the rwd platforms for a while. I know they will come out, just look at the direction cadilac is taking (all rwd). Besides GM is still making my next car and is constantly improving it... The corvette. I probably wont buy anything other than GM. I've driven everything from ford to mercedes and to be honest i like the offerings from chevy better than ford and Cadilac better than the new mercedes. I will deffinately add some GM stock to my portfolio in the near future.

                    um... k, i wasnt bashing you for driving an fbody. i loved it when i had it, i'm just saying its pretty narrow minded to say thats the only car you'll ever drive, there are lots of much nicer cars out there.

                    and dont call me an idiot, mmmk? ;)

                      OF course you can keep a F-body on the road for 20 years. But its alot of work and lets face it, its a v6 f-body. 95% of the people on the board if they had the financial ability would upgrade to a CTS-V, ls1, GTO, Mustang, 350Z, STi, EVO, or the new trend, SRT4/neon, or whatever is faster, handles better and looks more update.

                      Just a thought how many people do you see driving around in mint 82-85 2.8L and 2.5L 4 banger F-bodies?

                      There are probably some out there but they are VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY rare.

                      There was a time too, I thought I was gonna keep my first f-body forever, I'm on my 3rd right now.

                      Go drive a CTS-V, go drive a GTO, go drive a C6 or even a C5, Go drive a Mach 1, and if you MUST have a 3.8L v6, go drive a new Grand Prix GTP, COMP G, very nice cars. If someone offered me anyone of those for my car and ~$5k cash, I'd jump on it.

                        I love the F-bod too, but I guess it won't hurt my feelings if I have to wait a few extra years to get a new camaro. I have had 3 already. 2 v6's and one v8 IROC. My GF is about to buy an 02 trans am. Frankly, I am a little tired of F-bods. I have been driving one since I was 17.

                          My thoughts, I have had one since just before I turned 16, and I just turned 23.

                            So sad what a bummer. Guess I'll keep my bird till it lays eggs. Hope they still make parts for them a few years from now. Like console doors, etc. Kinda ioce just to go to a dealer and get stuff. Yeah it's more expensive, but I cant find any junkers around here. My dealer said he could drop a 350 w/ trans in and all the stuff hooked up and working like a factory job for 5 grand. Is that bad??? Later Jessica

                              I wasn't saying that they were going to driving their cars for the next 20 years, i never said that the only car i was going to drive for the next 20 was going to be my Fbody. Hell when i get out of business school i am buying a new car, however i am going to garage my Camaro cause it is going to be with me for the rest of my life.
                              I am just saying that your analogy of you did it and so will everyone else is totally flawed. My family is very well off and owns 10 different cars, all of which i have driven, none of which i would let replace my Fbody. I have driven cars ranging from my neighbors 97 Porsche C4S(mine for 2 weeks), to my Dads SC430(get to drive whenever i want), to my racing teams STI, and still i much rather prefer my Fbody over all the cars. So don't be so narrow minded as to think that just because you drove a car and liked it better means that we will let it do the same thing. No car will ever replace the centimental value that i have for my Camaro, i worked since age 14 to get it, and gave up most of my highschool party life for it, i love that car, it is much more than just speed and looks to me. And that is why simply driving another "better" car will never replace it.
                              And i have driven a CTS-V, a GTO, a C6, a C5, and a new Grand Prix GTP. But like i said for some people it is about alot more than nice...it is about the car and the feeling they have attached to it.

                                I know I'll keep my f-body for the next 7 years until my cousin is 16, then hand it down to him. When the boy is of age he's gonna need a ride to take all his girls out. I say all cause this kid is turning into a real ladies man, even at age 9 lol.

                                My next car will probably be a 1987 Toyota Corolla GT-S or an older Nissan 240SX. Something fun to drive that can be modded if there's cash and gets fair gas mileage. Not to mention I can probably get a good one for 3000 bucks. My financial plan involves living like a poor man when I have a high paying engineering job to save up a lot of $$$$$, then start living the good life.
