I actually take offense to that, but since I'm not a tofu-farting hippie, I'll just say "See ya, enjoy Kerry's gas chambers"

Are you saying that because you cannot present a rational argument to our arguments?

You've never lived in an opressed country, you're taking your freedoms for granted and hoping that a bad man will not take your life and your freedoms away. Real men prepare themselves instead of hoping.

      Enjoy the tofu.

Do you understand the dynamic to owning a firearm in America? It is constitutional right, the ammendment in consitution that guarantees balance of power between government and citizens to INSURE that there is no power overtake and the country doesn't turn into totalitarism.

It is any person's birth given right to own a firearm to protect himself, his family and his freedom. Criminals can already get their hands on all kinds of firearms. Why regular citizen cannot own an effective tool of self-defense and preservation of freedom, then?
I'm sorry, but you're both wrong. The reason that bill was passed in the first place is because of the seceeding-loving people of Freedom County, Washington. Don't know about them, then read up.

This was also passed because of people like the IT administrator at my old job. I used to carpool with him until one little incident....

We hop in his Suburban (Late 80's, built like a tank). As soon as the doors close, he unlocks his center console, takes out his Glock, slides in his "evil" clip (allowed him something like 15 bullets instead of 10 or some crap like that, who cares). He then proceeds to chamber a round, LEAVES THE GUN COCKED WITH THE SAFETY OFF!!! and places the gun back into the console. On the way home he cuts people off as he weaves through traffic and giggles each time someone gets pissed off.

I am not against banning "assault" weapons. I don't understand the need for it. Even military Hummers are WIR'd and not TYPICALLY released to civilians.

What I am for however is VERY STRICT punishments for gun offenders. You take drivers licenses away from drivers. Take away or suspend someone's gun license for minor offences. If caught with a gun and no license, confiscate the gun and jail. Really, no different then your drivers license. Owning a gun may be a "right", but using it is a privelage (just like driving).

PS. Doesn't anyone find it slightly hilarious that a gun and an AUTHENTIC (made by registered Japanese swords smith) both must be registered as lethal weapons?

I hope they ban box cutters, because I feel safer knowing that a plane can't be taken over w/them.

Oh, and my assault weapon is safely locked up again, not to be used for about 20 mos ;)

The point of the second amendment and being able to own firearms is a simple one the fore-fathers had in mind:

You cannot oppress an armed populace

That is the reason we are allowed to have guns, and that is same reason i am staunchly in favor of 2nd amendment rights. This includes the right to own fully automatic assault weapons. We should be as well equipped as possible if we ever have to fight our own government

I celebrated today by going down to the range and putting some more rounds through my new MAK-90. Now that the ban's expired I'm thinking about adding a muzzle brake.

Maybe if I'm lucky I can score that grenade launcher I've always wanted

For those of you who don't know what the Assault Weapons Ban was, why it was enacted, and why it expired

I'm looking at getting (5) AR-15's with all the extras & keep 'em boxed up for the next ban.

Those with the pre-ban rifles were making a killing at gun shows while the ban was in effect

I'd rather have a 500 S&W Magnum anyway. assult rifles are for the guys that cant shoot accurately so they need a million shots. Give me a 5 shot revolver and call me a cowboy over that crap!

All right here goes. First the assault weapons that were banned are not fully automatic weapons. Those have been heavily regulated since 1934. They are semiautomatic weapons with cosmetic features which make them look "menacing:. An assault weapon is no more deadly than a semi auto rifle. No one needs an assault rifle but here's a point no one needs an F-Body either. Assault weapons are like sports cars. They're flashy and fun to shoot that's all. Do I believe citizens have a right to bear arms sure I do. But do citizens need rpg's and cannons no. Here's an idea instead of banning a certain type of weapon because of the way it looks why not enforce our current gun laws with stiffer penalties. OH and BTW I have ordered a new toy but it's not for home defense. I use a shotgun for home defense.

So you are saying an l1a1 isn't accurate? ;)

On the bleeding hearts that think this is the end of the word, you could technically make an 11 round clip and put it in your semiauto deer rifle and it would be called an "assault weapon". A damn 2x4 is an assault weapon.

It's really just a political namegame. If you make it sound scary and dangerous, it surely is, thus you have little resistance to the banning of said item.

Personally I'm more afraid of being shot by some fool with a pistol than with an AK-47 or AR-15.

Would it surprise you that by putting a larger clip in my .22 longrifle that it would be considered an assault weapon?...*rolls off chair and convulsively laughs*

I loved the news report last night that called the alleged 'assault weapons' "extremely high powered rifles." Every rifle I own (legal and used for hunting) would put a .223 to shame. Its just a case of the uninformed liberals restricting the 2nd ammendment by looks, rather than function. Its absolutely rediculous.
