Anyone ever have gout?

The side of my foot ballooned out on Sat and between Sat and this morning (Tue) it got so bad that I'm unable to walk without excruciating pain.

So I went to the emergency room thinking I had somehow broken a toe. Seems that I have gout. I didn't even know what gout was before tonight.

Anyway, the doctor said it would go away by it's self and that I should stay off it and take the anti inflammatory and pain killers (Vicodin [img]graemlins/burnout.gif[/img] ).

Anyone ever experience this hell? And if so, did it go away by its self? And if so, how long did it take?
