  • Blew it up

Friday night when I went to warm my tires up to put a whooping on a freinds Z28 around 3200 the car dies and smoke it coming from around the car. Had a feeling it wasnt from the tires.

I went to start it up and it had a real hard time turning over. Sounded like one cylinder had compression. So I pushed it off and parked it at a freinds shop just down the street.

I'm pretty sure it broke a rod(s), wristpin, piston(s) or the crank. I went to start it back over and just sounds like metal clunking on turn over.

Hopefully I can get someone to help me trailer it home, probaly today after work.

Odds are it ruined atleast one head (Abbott Stage 3's). Anyways I have another motor I'm putting back to completely stock and de modding the car and probaly selling it to buy a Z.

If things work out I'm going to take over payments on my mom's 01' Z, put in my rear end, draglites, and suspension onto that car and send mine on its way.

It was fun but I think the v6 days are over. :(

Lots of mods will be for sale here pretty soon, cam, built valvetrain, stall and other things.

doh sorry to hear that, always sucks when the car brakes while trying to go fast. Especially something major.

It had all the little mods, lid, headers, no smog, and all that good stuff. Under the hood there was and engine, coil packs and fuel rail. No BS like they come with stock.

The only thing holding it back was it was on stock 19lb injectors, i have a set of GTP injectors sitting in the garage floor for it and it was suppose to go to dyno tune friday, and out for 13's saturday.

I'm demodding the hole car so there's lots of mods up for sale.

Hey, if you are serious about demodding the car, EMAIL me about those lifters and pushrods, I desperately need a set for my firebird. I might be selling the Monte here soon to a coworker, and I need the firebird up and running by that time, but all the sets of lifters and pushrods I have are junk. Email me at Mogobs30th@yahoo.com. BTW, if you really are serious, post something in the For Sale section.

This just doesn't make sense to me. How did the motor die like that just because you revved it to 3200? I've put nitrous and boost into a stock motor and ran it several hundred times at a racetrack and have not had one single problem, yet you blew yours up revving it? Were you running lean? Are there a lot of miles on the motor? Was it not built correctly?? It takes a lot to kill these motors, so either something was not done correctly or maybe it's not as bad as you think. Who did the work on the motor?

It had a tapping I could never find. I could never figure it out. Sounded like valvetrain or exhaust, but it wasnt the valvetrain or exhaust. One of my freinds thought it was a wristpin. And it would make sense if it was a wristpin, and that wristpin gave way and threw a piston and so on.

Then what I think it was, detonation. Because I was running lean as **** and had about 10-15* of KR. Motor had 72,000 on it.

I did the motor. It was all done correctly.

Dont know. 15* of knock retard so timing was around 10-11 on the curve. I'm guessing because it was so lean. My injectors maxed out as soon as I floored it. A couple days before I got it on a Tech 2 and had Ed Wright check out how it was running. The day before I bought a set of GTP injectors, i was gonna throw them in the next day.

It ran a 14.1 @ 93 with 15* KR and my af was pathetic. I know it had mid low 13's in it after new injectors and tune.
