• Could I take Limbaugh?

    A friend wants me to line up some arguments and facts, sit down, and actually call satan. Er, I mean, Limbotomy... Ehem, Limbaugh. Yeah, he wants me to call that guy and see if i can handle him word for word lol. You guys have all seen me, weak and strong, and so I thought maybe some of you listen (god I hope not) and could give me an estimate on how even we'd be. Most of his arguments, while emphatic, seem somewhat hollow and all the people who call in are just idiots... Conspiracy? Propaganda? No way! All liberals are just stupid and exactly alike!

      Simply put, you won't win. It's his show. Regardless of what you have to say (and this goes regardless of which side of the political fence you are on), the host always wins.

      You also need to remember that he is almost definitely better informed than you are. It's his job to make sure that he knows more than his callers do. Again, that goes for any radio host, not just those on the right.

        True, but wouldn't that be because they screen out the smart callers? Or it's like rigged or something? The idea was to pretend to be an insipid fool obsessed with Iraq, an easily debatable issue. Then when I got on the air, I could turn it around and make it into the whole why the hell are we spending the money to be in a country to basically provide infrastructure and cash to what will ultimately turn out to be a fundamentalist muslim regime when we have the largest budget deficit in history thing and hopefully chew his *** from there.

              Do you honestly think you'd be the first person to think of that? I think that it's moronic to try and debate a radio host. They have the ability to silence you at will and answer only that which they choose. However, I really don't think that they screen out "smart" callers. I listen to Limbaugh occasionally and have heard some very eloquent liberal callers get through and make points; some have even been praised by the host.

              Also, just to keep this from getting locked, you might want to avoid making statements about the war here that might inspire certain people to call on that a$$.

                I see. Good point, well taken. I just listened to a small segment of his show, and it sounded to me like the small amount of time that they were taking calls, the people on the phone were retarded.

                We simply jumped to the conclusion that they must be screening the calls, or the only people who listened to the show were dithering idiots. Either way, the idea was to call and act like one of the less intelligent debaters in order to get in and make sure he wasn't expecting it, then to unexpectedly introduce clever arguments.

                  </font>
I think that a lot of people get the wrong impression about that show by only listening to a small segment. I highly suggest giving it a full 3 hours one day if you have time. We have several liberal talk shows here in Chicago and I actually try to listen to them when I can so that I can see how other people think. By the way, Limbaugh likely does that, too. When you host a political show, it's in your best interest to know all the best arguments of the other side. Standard high-school debate fundamentals. If you really feel strongly about liberal causes (which we all know you do), I personally think you're better off just volunteering for a campaign or working with a Democrat organization in your area.

                    </font>
It's Lubbock. There ARENT any democratic organizations here lol. Actually, living here has helped me to realize how pointless it is to be an activist- the general populace feels the same pretty much, they have too many support group-think influences to listen to any one radical.

                    But that badger badger badger mushroom thing is cool.

                      Sheeeit, if you're that depressed about the way the general populace thinks, move here. Nothing BUT liberal activists, especially in Evanston. I guess this city (and most of So. California) balances out Texas and Oklahoma. Being a strong conservative/libertarian in this city is like being a radical liberal in, well, Lubbock.

                      And badger, badger, badger is the worst waste of a minute I've ever experienced. :D

                        I'll be more than happy to debate you. I got your phone number. So wait for my call. J/K

                        Radio talk show is just crazy anyway. When your proving your point, they just cut you off.

                          No. I dont think you'll win. Limbaugh isnt even a good debater... he'll just silence you for a while, twist what you say, laugh, berate, and pummel his twisted version of what you say and completely change what the entire point of your argument was.... if he didnt do that, he wouldnt have a show.

                            Call Boortz, at least he's not a republican.

                            Also try Sean Hannity, I think he's actually better, less pompous than the leading brand.
