• 2006 Ford Shelby Cobra GT500

looks like Ford is gonna be making quite a contender with the New Cobra now...
6-speed trans, S/C 5.4L 450hp V8 - gee, which means it's already gonna have a multitude of pulleys and such available since it's the same as the lightning. Sounds rather potent

Just as the original Shelby GT500 was the "step up" to big-block power from the GT350, the new Ford Shelby Cobra GT500 steps up to Ford's 5.4-liter "MOD" V-8 . The result? The GT500 is the most powerful factory Mustang ever. Its supercharged 5.4-liter, 32-valve V-8 evolves from SVT's experience with supercharging the "MOD" engine to deliver more than 450 horsepower and 450 foot-pounds of torque.

The cast-iron-block, four-valve engine is force-fed an air-and-fuel mixture via a screw-type supercharger at 8.5 pounds per square inch of boost. Aluminum cylinder heads, piston rings and bearings sourced from the Ford GT program bring a high level of proven durability to the drivetrain, while upgraded cooling components promise longevity. "Powered by SVT" camshaft covers are the finishing touch to the engine.

Those rims look exacly like Zo6's. But the hood looks better, well, the whole car looks much better! i like it, but i would still rather have an 05 Zo6.

Same here, I'd definitely take the Z06 over this anyday; I'm sure handling is lightyears better in the Z. I am curious to see the price range of the Cobra though, still sounds like a nice car for it's usual target range.

Wow, can anyone say "I'm paying labor to have my spark plugs changed, only cost me $600"?

I can. but it would only cost me $500.

I still think Cobras are cheaters for having FI on their cars stock. My Mustang buddy always boasts that Cobras own SS's but a SS with a Supercharger would be a different story.

Ha, and I bet that what the Ricers say about my car because it came FI from the factory stock. I think Ford is getting it right. C'mon, fast from the factory, with the opportunity for "cheap and easy" fast"er" later on!

I thought the Cobra "R" had the independent rear? I'm no expert though!

</font>
no offense, but that is the dumbest excuse of all time. and its not just ricers who use it, our fellow f-body members have used it too.

Ricer who was just raped by a trans am:
"if i had a 350 in my CRX, it would be a different story"

Guy in trans am who was just raped by an 03 cobra:
"if my car came stock with a supercharger it wouldve been different"

coulda, woulda, shoulda. its not cheating to have FI. your saying when i have my turbo, after i get done owning a LS1, that its cheating cuz my car is a v6???

I think Ford is definitely going in a good direction with the Cobra. It's fast from the factory, with a very easy ability to upgrade power. This is basically a detuned version of the GT supercar 5.4L.

And all that stuff about if an SS had a supercharger, well what if the mustang had another 1.1L of displacement.....

I'm forever an F-body fan and have wanted one since being a little kid, but GM's lost my loyalty I think. First they cancel our cars, now the hopes of them coming back are being shattered with them getting rid of the zeta stuff now too. Ford is putting out some nice vehicles lately, high hp and nice looks, and I gotta admit they're definitely attracting my attention. I'll be giving one of these a nice long look once I graduate college and hopefully land a decent job, right around when it's gotten its bugs worked out.
