  • Need help picking dual video cards

I am the whole IT department for my dads company and they have grown so much that the need to move to a paperless office because they spend why to much money on printer paper. They want to setup every computer with dual 17" flat screen monitors so they can view one document on one screen and fill in another document on another. Every computer is either running W2K or XP. There are two brands of PC in the building, Dells and Emachines. All the emachines have internal video cards as do half of the dells. If I add another video card to the emachines will Windows be smart enough to run the two? OR.... should I buy one of the dual monitor video cards and if so which one? I have done dual desktops before but never on a system with an internal video card. Have any of you tried this?

    Thanks for the help guys

BTW, the cards need to be PCI

I know my ATI Radeon has dual monitor support. ALso look into screen resolution & types of monitors needed/supported. Once you find out what specs you need to meet, save some $$$$ and hit pricewatch.

every video card is internal. Mayhaps you mean integrated ;)

You don't need to spent a poo load on a card for decent dual monitor support... the radeons do have it, but I'm sure you can find cheaper.

I dont think that windows will be smart enough to make it into two, becuase the two cards will be of different picture quality and resolution, so you will probably have to buy dual cards, and bypass the integrated.

Windows WILL be smart enough. A few friends of mine on overclocking forums had that done, and it immediately reconized it and worked great. BUT, just to be sure, I'd try it before you go out and buy one. If not, you can get a cheap video card with VGA / DVI ports and get a DVI to VGA adapter (comes with some radeons) and it'll work.
