what do you guys think about the GTP? is 120k close to retirement for these 3.8's..

I honestly believe they can last well up to 300k strongly if well taken care of

I've got a '97 GTP Coupe with 148K on the clock. Outside of a slow valve cover gasket leak and a rattling supercharger coupler the car is very mechanically sound, gets great gas mileage and the engine is strong.

It all depends on whether the previous owner took care of the vehicle. Run a report on it. Check the transmission fluid and see if it smells burnt. On the test drive make sure the transmission shifts properly ay full throttle. Check the radiator filler neck and see if there's any sludge built up. See if you can get the maintenance records/vehicle history ran off the VIN at a local GM dealership. See if any applicable recalls have been taken care of.

Outside of that, check it over like a normal used car. Oh yes, don't romp on it unless you know it's got a tank of premium fuel and it's fully warmed up.

I'd also say find a 98+ Firebird. You're 21, why would you need a 4door car? Either that or the 99 Camaro, and don't worry about mileage. The 3800 can go forever if it is maintained properly and not driven like an 8. Take my word for it ;) .

He'd take a 4-door car if he has a crappy driving history and doesn't want to work/live just to make car and insurance payments.

Check the insurance rates out on all the cars, and see what works out better for you. Guaranteed the GTP will be cheaper.

Just pick what you want, I promise you won't be disappointed in a GTP if it's in good condition.

Another vote for 99 Camaro. It's got a t-top, clean interior and clean title. if i were you i would go for it.
