  • Bye bye car.......ill miss you

Ok, i checked my insurance today, and im payin about $800 every 6 months for my car, under my parents policy, with the car in their name.

Insurance on an LT1 for me was outrageous when i checked last year, if it was under my name. SOmething to the tune of $3500 every 6 months

Sooooooooo, today i checked Geico for a quote.
With my driving record, the car in my name, insurance for an LT1 Z28 or TransAm would be $840 every 6 months.

    Totally doable for me......

Nothing is holding me back now. Im done modding the car. Come spring time, after christmas, im selling my car and going to hunt for a TransAm or Z28 LT1.
As good as the V6 has been to me, its time to move on. Finances are no longer an issue....

You'll enjoy it. I love the sound of LT1's!

Make sure the LT1 you're getting is babied...even though optispark isn't THAT much of an issue, you'll eventually have to deal with it.

And if you can finance the little extra..go for the LS1. Hate to say it, but you'll LOVE the topend.

          DIS-4 is for 3 or 4 coils..
          LS1 is coil/cylinder.
DIS-4 does not work with it :(

you know this geive me a crazy idea, if it will work.

the FFF kit and turbo in the back, Twin turbo without the room problems, all you would need to make this work would be a turbo and some pipeing to combine it with the IC???

            would that work?

Yea tyler, as much as id like the rear mount for the 6, ive been in plenty of LT1's and that n/a power i LOVE.

I will not be financing this car at all. I will pay cash for it. I hope i can get like 5500 for my car, and ill pay the rest of the LT1 price in cash. There is no way i can afford an LS1.

BUT.......the rear mount stuff still intrigues me. And they DO make a kit for the LT1 sooooooooooo...........if i was to fab up my own kit, do a little custom stuff.......yea, 450rwhp? hee hee hee (evil laugh)

either way, im gonna be goin n/a for a while, and would need to decide which route to take with the v8.

Oh, and i also got quotes tonight from Progressive and State Farm, and Progressive would be $560 every 6 months for me, and state farm would be $530.......

.....this is a sure thing. Come springtime, my car is unfortuniately goin on the market. Itll be an excellent buy for someone....i baby her...

LT1's are pretty damn strong, all you really should do is take your block in to be balanced, port the heads and intake, maybe get a cam, and run 5-10 psi from a turbo or supercharger. You can make 550+ RWHP easily.

yes, the STS kit that they make was put on a lightly bolt-on modded LT1, and the only internal work was 8.5:1 pistons, and they put down like 550rwhp.

do i need a car with 550 rwhp? no. its a daily driver. i probably dont even need a turbo, but hey, i can dream.

boltons will do me fine. 6 speed for gas mileage, and if i had like 350 rwhp, i wouldnt have to worry about too much on the street lol.

I think what he was talking about was a bi-turbo setup. have the turbo in back, a smaller turbo, spin the turbine of a much larger turbo to put a TON more air in to the motor. Either that, or a sequential setup--a smaller turbo for bottom end and when it loses power the larger turbo is kicking in for more top end..

Proof that 'babying' a car doesn't mean ****. I remember watching the video you made of your car..burning out and toping out. That is what you consider 'babying'?

And it will take quite a few bolt-ons / modifications to attain 350 hp to the rear wheels for an LT1. In any case,,it will definitely be a step up from the V6.
