as some of you may know, i'm 16... and they say it's proven that everyone will get in some sort of accident their first year driving.
well, tonight i helped prove that to be true. i was in a town nearby, going to walmart. i leave walmart, going down the road (40mph zone) and i'm doing 38. there's nobody behind me for at least half a mile, but of COURSE this guy decides to hurry up and pull out in front of me. well, as he's pulling out in front of me, a car pulls out in front of him and slams on the brakes. so i slam on mine as hard as i can. but there's no avoiding it. my choices were:
1. go left, into oncoming traffic
2. go right, into a telephone pole
3. just hit the guy
so of course, i just hit the guy. i went to the side as much as i could in the .5 seconds i had. he had a POS van with a big iron rear bumper, so there wasn't a scratch on his car. i, however, need a new front bumper, driver's side fender, hood, and the whole headlight thing. this really sucks ***. i've had my car a month now and this happens... it was really unavoidable though... i know if you hit someone from behind, it's still your fault and i take full responsibility for it. it just pisses me off that the guy pulls out in front of me, then slams on the brakes as hard as he can. i imagine i got down to 30 when i hit him. god this sucks.
there's one good part: i have full coverage. my parents told me i had PLPD and that's all i'd been paying for, but they had secretly been paying the extra for me to have full coverage. so it looks like insurance is going to be helping me out quite a bit. they told me i had PLPD so i would be more careful because they know i baby my car. but this was pretty much unavoidable. he pulled out and i could barely slow down to the point where i didn't hit him right when he pulled out, then he slammed on the brakes.
this has made me realize something... instead of spending money on exhaust when i get my job, i'm going to spend it all on some brakes. the best i can find with the shortest stopping distance. people pull out in front of me every day here. i hate it.
