Some people buy a "sports car", "performance car", "sport compact" for more than just straight line racing. ;)

The cobalt isn't the best sport compact, but its a pretty decent one. GM is finally waking up to this sport compact market and will offer plenty of performance parts for the cobalt. Won't be long before they are kicking some butt at the track.
I have to agree with Redfrk13. Chrysler products are not for me. My first job out of college was renting cars. I can tell you that I will never own a chrysler. By far we had more problems with mopars than any other make and this is the reason I will never buy a chrysler product. I'm glad the neon runs 13's. Thats pretty impressive, but speed isn't everything to me on a daily driver. I would prefer a slower car that is more reliable than a faster one. To back up my point, Consumer reports compared car manufacturers on number of repairs per 100 cars. Most divisions of GM were either above average or average. Chrylser was below average. And Chryslers parent company Mercedes was well below average. Actually it was one of the worst. Good thing Mercedes was going to show chrsyler how to build quality cars.69 Camaro 350 4spd, Full Hotchkis susp, Baer brakes, moser 12 bolt, Flowmaster

96 RS Hotchkis STB, subframe connectors, Hotchkis LCA and adj Panhard rod, SS camaro sway bars, Bilstein shocks, powerslot rotors, Borla exhaust, rksport headers, k@nFIPK

Remember, SRT-4s only ran something like mid-low 14's with the 03's ;)
Thats similar times to a 98+ Z28 Auto with 3.23 stock.
So... I'd take the Srt-4 anyday.
This man just said he would take an SRT-4 over a 98+ Z28... I'd take a Z28 over a neon any day of my life, i'm pretty sure i'd choose it even if i was dead. I guess some people like the look of driving around in a bubble, but i'd rather have a REAR drive car, that sounds like it would blow a neon over if it drove behind it.
Strap a turbo on MOST any car and it will go fast, from what i've seen v6 f-bodies with turbo's go mid 13s.Black \'94 Trans Am A4- SLP CAI & Loudmouth
Red \'93 Firebird A4- Ram Air under the WS6 hood, !cat, exhaust.

That 14.6 time IS right. I have MotorTrend & Car and Driver, both ran testdrives on them.
The Cobalt SS's BIGGEST advantage is the fact that it out handles the Impreza WRX, the SRT-4, the Civic SI, the Golf GTI.. It may be slightly slower stock vs stock in a straight line but eh, that can be fixed with a pulley swap ;)
They are so much better.
The Evo 8 and STI are compared with the Corvette.
Thats how much better they are then the rest.
The Srt-4 reminds me of a new gen DSM without all the nasty problems the DSMs had.
Dont even bring up handling... obviously we didn't buy f-bodies because we like a car that handles well. LOL
Dude, the SRT-4 WAS designed to compete against sport compacts IE All the cars that were listed.
And The STI ane EVO aren't competing against a vette. 4 door 5 seater compact =/ the same class as a 2 seater sports car. They're just high end models of the sport compact market.2003 Zinc Yellow Mustang GT 1 of 701
ET : TBD
But our shenanigans are cheeky and fun! I don't remember them off the top of my head, but I know the 04's came with LSD, where the 03s didn't. I also think the 04's had a better wastegate or something, not 100% sure.
04's can do high 13's stock with good driver, which, in all honesty puts it a tad behind the LS1. A few hundred, and you'll be at the same level.
And BTW I would take a NEW srt4 over a used LS1 Fbody anyday. But, that's mostly because I a need for a 4 door family car. In all honesty, I probably won't own another Fbody, I just had way too many problems with mine.2003 Zinc Yellow Mustang GT 1 of 701
ET : TBD
But our shenanigans are cheeky and fun!
