• 355hp 3.8

Just saw this on the new porsche 911. AWD and 150 more horses than our 3.8s. Damn GM sucks . I know it is like 15 years newer though.

If our 3.8's put out that Hp, they'd cost quite a bit more too. Apples to Oranges.

Yeah that and there's prolly a turbo or something. If there's not the compression ratio is prolly 14:1, and it'll have 5 valves per cylinder like a ferrari.

you can't even compaire those motors to any front mounted V? type motor, that motor is a rear mount sideways orientaed boxer motor (that means the the cyclinders sit flat parallel to the ground) also lets look at the fact that its a Germany hand built car and everyone knows that European engines are leaps and bounds above US engines tec wise.

Gm could build our 3.8's to make just as much power as that, but its not cost effective and I don't think most people would be willing to pay the extra $$$ for engine. Years back chevy had 3.8 making 300hp in a monte carlo tribute car to Dale Earnhardt. It was a show car, but it can be done. Porsche is a small volume car manufacturer and can charge higher prices that people are willing to pay. Since GM is the largest car maker in the world, producing low volume high cost engines doesn't fit the bill.

find me proof that there was a 300hp 3.8 in those Dale Earnhardt's cause there wasn't, that was just an internet rumor. I wouldn't exactly call Porsche a small Volume car manufacturer, they may have a small line up of cars but you can go to any Porsche dealer and get ant one of their cars with enough money even the Carrera GT at any time, their are more Porsches then you may think running around. and oh ya you forgot about the LS7. The problem is GM has lost touch with their roots and wants to make half *** people movers, they have a huge line up of cars that all look the same, I think they need to cut down their line up instead of having 5 of the same cars with diffrent names on them justhave 1 or 2

There was a 300hp "concept" Intimadator Monte Carlo. It was bright red with a ghost "3" on each door. VERY COOL. It was displayed at the international auto show. I saw it in NY at the Javitts Center. I couldn't take my eyes off of it. It was THE ONLY car I would have considered trading mine in for...years ago.

My neighbor has an Intimadator with the Dale Earhardt insignia. Looks cool and sound cool too with stock everything.

According to him, it's pretty fast. I think it's 297 hp. with 11 to 1 compression ratio.

Porches relies on high compression and high rpm. It's not the most reliable car. And you're not going to believe how much people pay for maintainence.

My little sister was going to buy a Boxster S but when she found out how much her friend was paying to have her Boxster fix, she backed out and got a Z4 instead.

Here's our info on the Intimidator. I was wrong about the compression ratio.

Since when was GM anything else? Or Ford, or Dodge or Toyota, or Honda. Theres a big difference between Porsche and GM, and what consumers they are looking to please.

Porsche is considered a small volume manufacturer. I'm pretty sure Chevy sells more Silverados in a year than porsche sells with there entire line up. I'm well aware that the ls7 is a brand new engine right now found only in the z06. I bet in a little while you will find that engine offered as a crate engine which you could order for a Chevy dealer or through GM performance parts. When Chevy designed the ls1, they were also designing that engine to power a host of other vehicles as well. They made a iron version which is the vortec engine found in the trucks in various displacements, and I wouldn't count out the fact that a bunch of ls7 spin offs will come out of GM shortly. Also, I believe a bunch of ls7's will probably be heading over to the Holden division for the Aussies to play with. There is no way GM would build an engine to power only the z06 only.

                          Jusflyinby,

I totally agree with you, Yellowfbody is the one who disagrees.

I was reading Motor Trend March of '94 or '93 during my toilet time. Buick has a 4.2 V6 that produces 480 hp NA that high revving, 2V, push rods. They use on Formula 1 race car.

It's not a very popular because the V8 is still the most prefered. I thought that was cool.

I guess if we want too, we can do it. Just that Americans prefer a high reliable engine than the unreliable one in a Porches.
