Student Blows Self Up Outside OU-K-State Game
Family Members Say Student Had Emotional Problems

NORMAN, Okla. -- A student with "emotional difficulties" has been identified as the person who blew himself up Saturday evening at the University of Oklahoma.
The FBI says the remains are believed to be those of a 21-year old Joel Henry Hinrichs III, a mechanical engineering major from Colorado Springs, Color.
University President David Boren said the blast was an apparent suicide.
The young man apparently detonated an explosive device attached to his body near Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, where more than 84,000 people were watching a football game.
No one else was hurt in the explosion.
Hinrichs was the youngest of five. His parents are going through a divorce.
The student's father said he communicated with his son and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. He said his son was a very intelligent and private individual who somehow lost the confidence that his life would be a good one.
Joel Henry Hinrichs Jr. said he is clinging to the idea that his son's death was unintentional. He told The Denver Post that his son had trouble making friends with peers. He said his son took a year off college to try to cope with depression.
Hinrichs' sister, Berkeley Hinrichs, told the newspaper that her brother said he wasn't sure what he wanted to do with his life. She also said it's possible her brother was doing an experiment and did not mean to kill himself.
