For my whole life, only certain challenges would motivate me. For instance, anything with math or science would motivate me, because I love solving problems that would make other people quit.
However, when it comes to writing, I am usually the first to hand in a "C" paper and not strive for anything better. It is kind of weird now, though, being in my 4th year of college I am starting to change. I have a final paper due tomorrow for my C160 class and I have invested many many hours into perfecting this paper. My teacher is very good at writing, so I figure if I turn in an "A" paper to him it will justify my abilities to myself
A lot of people get motivated when they're told they can't do something, they want to prove that person wrong. I have never been this way I like positive reinforcement hehe.
So, what motivates you? And how?
