  • just a thought on a new vavletrain idea

cam delete, plus some other useless parts.

valves could be actuated using electromagnets to open & close. Reprogramable for "longer duration & higher lift, etc, etc," Just think about it. No more failed lifters, springs, pushrods. No five foot timing belt/chain to stretch/fail. An engine bay can never have too many wires in it now-a-days ;) .

Thoughts, slams, already been there, done that????

already been there, done that... renault developed it at least 5 years ago for formula one but the FIA changed the formula to exclude it after the fact. they are using pneumatically actuated valves now.

it would be sweet. i might look into that for my seinor project, or a research project.

i know that farrari has been working on a sliding cam. i think ive heard somtin about the cam delet, but i cant remeber where tho. but being a EE that would be good, just to play with.

            cool,

springs by the top of the valve stem in the solinoid could be able to slow down the valve enough.

I thought of solenoid valves a while ago. It would be great to have your PCM control your valves, just like it does your fuel injection.

I decided that valvesprings would still be necessary. The solenoids required to open a 130lb comp vavletrain would be enormous. The car would sound like a dozen .50 cal's firing at the same time.

I will build an electric valvetrain sooner or later. I have to finish my other project first. I am building a turbojet out of an old T25.

I think it's mercedes that does this too one one of their production V8's. Having infinite control over the valves also means they eliminated the throttle plate (just open the valves less for reduced throttle) and saved about 10% on fuel efficiency.

Might have problems opening and closing were I live due to freezing tempature's.But thats what I think.

A couple yeas ago the rumor was that the C6 Z06 would debut electromagnetically actuated valves for GM, but obviously that isn't going ot happen. At least not for the first year.
