I bought mine cause it was a good driving car. When i wanted a fast car I bought a corvette.

When I decided I didn't want fast but quick, i bought my laser, and i'm working on it now.

(I do plan on making my camaro a lot faster and quicker though, nitrous is the way to go for $/hp)

My parents gave me mine for my first car. Looks new mom and dad babied it i continue to do the same. They know i want something fast to take to the track and brag about so they said for me to find a cheap old muscle car to work on and theyll co-sign a loan for me so soon i hope to have speed and my v6camaro. It is gonna be awesome. I got to find a job first though ;p.

Pretty much the same story here.

        I had a choice between my 6 and a Z28 when I was looking in 8/02.

The 6 saves me about $200/month over the 8 because of initial cost, insurance, maintenance, gas, etc. I could afford that if I wanted, but what's the point in the DC metro area where I could never use the increased acceleration and top end anyway. The 6 has enough for what I need here. That extra $2400/year gets put to better use.

I actually wanted a third gen Formula 350, but my dad thought it was to old and just get some thing newer. The dealer I got my car from had the Trans Am and a 97 V6 Camaro. The Camaro had T-tops, both TA and V6 were autos. When I went to ask about the price on the V6 my dad said no and to get the Trans Am because he knew I would want the V8 after a week so might as well just get what I wanted now. the TA was also real low miles, it was 7 years old and had 40K miles, plus it was all stock. I wanted an F-body, I'm glad I got the Trans Am in the end. At the time a Ls1s were still real new and a 98 Z28 with no options and out of warranty was like 15K at the cheapest. Insurance wasnt a problem for us neither was price. If I had waited I'm sure i could have gotten a newer F-car, but in retrospect I had so much fun with this car. It runs great and has been super reliable for the past 4 years. If your not going to mod it, then no point in getting the V8. The LT1s still respond well to mods if you know what your doing and has a ton of potential if your on a budget. You can spray the piss out of an Lt1 and it wont break. The V6s arent bad though, an F-body is an F-body. All my friends in sick sixx have sixs, I gotno problem with them. How ever I dont think theres any unity between 6 and eight owners. Most the V6 owners that get in the Lt1 sections on the other boards say stupid ****, so I dont feel bad for them when the V8 owners treat em like crap.

I went to go look at some eclipse that was horrible, had flood damage then I saw a beautiful red '96 camaro with nice wheels and a SS hood on the other side of the lot. I knew nothing about cars really, I just knew that it looked nice and for 6k I was buying it. I kept it for 3 years until I wrecked it last month. You really can't beat the look of some of the 6s out there. A lot of them look nicer than some of the v8s I see on the road. And they're really not that much slower than a v8, of course the LS1 is a different story, but a lot of stock LT1s aren't really that much quicker.
You my friend are uneducated! Stock LT1s are usually good for a 14flat or so, some I have seen muster high 13s Bone stock.
            New GTs are 14-14.4
LS1s are obviously and already stated a good bit faster than GTs and LT1s.

There are some V8 Pony cars that aren't much faster than the 6 or just as slow as the 6. Such examples would be a 96-98 GT, Most 3rd gens with anything other than an L98.

To be honest with everyone and the thread starter, I have had my V6 for 2 weeks and I am tired of it already. Its just too slow compared to what I am used to, but I knew that when I bought it, so I can't complain too much.

Also for those that say they were worried about V8s and reliability and gas mileage, I also think that is a tad bit rediculous. If you're talking about an old car then yea, thats understandable, but new technology is awesome.

Just using as an example, my best friends 98 TA, is his daily driver, has 4.10s, long tubes, loudmouth, intake and thats about it. He runs 12.5@110 all day long and still gets 27mpg and drives it 35miles each way to work each day.

I plan to drop a 502 in it when I finish graduate school
When I graduate from grad school I plan on trying to fine me a ZL1. Ill still like to keep the 6. I love it.

I like how everyone is talking about insurence. Who do you have? I went to talk to my insurence agent, I have a V8 flu at the moment. That is beacuse if I dont get the breaks fixed im gonna freak. He got back to me and told me it would be the same cost per month for me if I had a 6 or an 8.

For me the big savings comes from the difference between the price for 87 in the 6 and the recommended 91 in the 8. Around here that difference is about $.20/gallon sometimes.

I got my v6 because i am a diehard Fbody fan... this is my 3rd one. The main reason i bought this one... is because it's #49 of 2000 GT's and #1 of 200 navy blue metallic GT's. I like rarety. Also, i'm young and insurance on a v8 would kill me.

I couldn't see the point in buying an older 93-94 T/A with more mileage, for the same price I could get this 97 V6 with 1/2 the mileage.

Turns out I bought a lemon piece of garbage anyways.

I bought my first six when I was 17, because of insurance. I had that for over a year and a half. The one I have now i was never supposed to have, I needed a car quick before I moved back to college, and didnt find a Z28 in time, thats why mine is pretty much an in-between car until I get either a Z28 or Trans am. Im happy with it, since I know what it can do, Ill just be happier with the V8. Oh, and contrary to some peoples belief, Lt1's will smoke our cars badly, Ive driven several of them. Theres a guy on camaroZ28.com who has a 355 LT1 with twin turbos putting out 1100hp, now thats scary power.

when i was in the market for a new car back on 01 i was originally going to buy this 97 talon for 8000 off of this guy who had an ad in the paper. my mom convinced me that if i was going to spend 8000 on a used car i might as well put 8000 down on a new car. so i went and test drove a beautiful white formula. had all the paperwork completed. when my mom (who was co-signing for me [i was 18 and this was my first new car]) called the insurance company from the dealership.. not only did they say that the insurance would be about 450 dollars a month for full coverage, they also said that since i was male and 18 that they would drop my coverage if i bought that car. so instead of getting my formula i got a weaker version that looks just as beautiful. i vowed that the DAY i turn 25 and my insurance drops, i'm buying a V8 f-body. and i will. oh yes, i will.
