• Why did you get YOUR V6 guys?... I need some encouragement :(

Basically Its kind of frustrating that even after fully upgrading the intake, exhaust, modding the lid, and putting "ram-air" I will still not have near the HP of a V8.....

Just wondering.. is the reason most of you guys got V6 just 'cause you can't afford V8? Not trying to insult anyone 'cause I know you love your V6s.. just wondering. I think I read someone saying that the V6 is 200 lbs lighter... wouldn't that have a pretty significant effect on speed?

After I do super sucker ram-air, lid, headers, high-flow cat, and exhaust + cost of V6 camaro, I would have 1500 left over (and that's not counting installation fees of the above : /) What could I do with the remaining money?... I can't afford a super or turbo for that. New computer chip? What?

It's either I get a V6 and mod it... and STILL not have the power of a V8, or I get a V8, and I start with more power, but I'm unsure of the reliability of the engine and it will probably be pretty high milage.

Basically I need motivation lol... a little discouraged that it looks like I'll never come close to 300 hp.

i got mine cause i got a good deal on it. i couldnt afford an 8. i was going to get a civic. plus, i enjoy street racing 8'and seeing the look on there face when i beat them. if the trend stays, when im in the 11's with the FFF kit, i'll be one fast ****er on the street. ofcourse though, if i had them money, i would have gotten an 8

I couldn't afford the 8 or the insurance on it. Also, as my dad put it "that car has too much power for you" when I test drove a z28. Now that I look back at it, I was way too young/inexperienced at 18 to get an 8. Not trying to be an ***, but how much driving experience do you have? Your profile doesn't show your b-day (why I'm asking). I know I personally got myself into several situations where I probably would have killed myself with those 2 extra cylinders just because of inexperience. Something to think about when you consider the v8.

I didn't even care about the motor when I bought my car.
It looked awesome and we got a great deal... then after driving it for a few months I got the speed bug and started wanting a V8

It sucks too, I got this car over a 97 Trans Am cause this one was nicer LOL

Mostly because of insurance. But I'm proud of my V6, I like the V8s but the V6 has enough pep for me right now.

I could have got the v8 with not much problem but with me being an 18 year old male insurance was gonna eat me out the ***. I just loved camaro's. So i got the 3.8 and i became obsessed with going faster so i continue to mod it. I dont know if it will ever catch my dads z28 but i am gonna give it a shot.

Well, I was going to buy a rare convertible 90 Trans Am GTA and mod it. But after seeing the Black Firebird I fell in love.

In the line up with TA, Camaro, the black Firebird was the best looking one.

When I drove it home, I could not believe how many stares I got. And when I got to my hood, I was a celebraty. I still get alot of looks today.

But you know, who cares what you drive, V6 or V8. Eventually it will become slow compare to the new crops that keeps coming.

Just love what you have, because nobody will respect it more than you.

Im getting discouraged by seeing all these new 4 cyls coming with more hp then the 3.4 and the 3.8. Gah Jap cars make me sick. Well a Supra would be nice but thats it!

Well, it's a long story. Here it goes. First I had a pontiac sonfire that I swear was possesed. Ever since I had the car taken in to a local dealership for 30,000 mile checkup, they took the liberity of "hooking up" a sub woofer and amp I was transporting, without asking me. It was installed wrong and lit the wire they ran under the carpet on fire when I started it to drive off. after that, nothing electrical ever worked. Got fed up with dealing with it, called GM, complained about the dealership... told me they release me from contract nocharge if got another GM vehical. WOHOOO!!! Im in college now and this would be my first car I got to pick completly. Back in late 2001 It was hard to find my dream car around where I lived, which was the camaro/firebird line. So I told GM what I was looking for, 2001-2002 camaro z28: ttops, cd player, 6 speed, power windows, controls on the steering wheel, perferbally color was that color changing teal to green, around 20k. I was playing around about being fully loaded, but was serious about the 20k give or take limit, thinking I would probally atleast get z28. Gm called back a week later, the closest dealer with a new z28 was 3 hours away at bill heared in orlando, and it was the one I wanted exactly. Now the here is the best part I thought at the time, the car was never techniquly owned, it had 872 miles on it, GM told me it was there test track car, IE explained it was the one they showed what it could do. Therefor they would sell it to me at 18768.99! YESSS fully loaded *new* 2001 Teal SS 6M for under 19k. Ok what to do with the POS car that the dealership killed? drop it off at the dealership and since I wanted it right away, I could be driven up and finish the paperwork at bill heard. My parents pick me up and drove to 3 hours to get my soon to be car. I was like a 16 year old kid about to get his drivers license in car for over 3 1/2 hours(accedent on the road). We get there with vin number, reservation number, and getting ready to sign that title paper saying it was mine. A sleek back guedo Itallian ****er came up and said the car never existed. BULL heres the paperwork, after some yelling and telling me to calm down and not to make a scene, I raised more hell and had him call GM. GM said it was on their lot, and told them that they already faxed the paperwork over to them. More arguments insue, about I drove 3 hours for car and they lost it. The guedo manager told me well they will get me a new car, but for in that price range how bout a impala. I was like no way in hell, get GM back on the line... this is bull ****, of course my dad was Irrate as can be too. Pissed we stormed out, drove 3 hours for a car I needed and wanted, not to exist?? No way, so we drove down the road to deland and chevy dealership, walked on told them what happened, showed them the semifilled paperwork, TOLD them that after a whole day of driving for a car we were walking away with a camaro, ended up spending 18k for v6, I wanted the camaro so bad and couldnt wait after that happened. Stopped by Bill heard to give one final peice of my mind and to show them I got a camaro for 18k, then found out why my car was missing. The greasy itialian jackoff saw that it was being sold called his son, who just turned 16 to bring the car back since he was "barrowing" it, before I arrived, and wrapped the backend of it around a tree next to the matenence entrence.

I still want an 8 BADDD, but I LOVE my 6.
If I could I would own the 6 for everyday fun, and beef an 8 up just for power. It has been a good car to me all these years.

I originally got my '96 V6 when I was 19 in Las Vegas, in 1999. I wanted a GTP, but I test drove a Camaro and I was hooked. It was even a 95 3.4 that I test drove - I was impressed, becuase it had a 5 speed. But this one was a stripper (manual windows, no A/C, etc) and they wanted $11k for it

So I test drove a 95 Z28 convertible, and thats what I wanted more than anything, but when I rated my inurance at over $400/mo I kept looking and found the fully loaded 96.

I drove that car for over 4 years and it served me well, but I spent the whole time I had it wishing I hadn't settled and regretting the 6. Looking back it was for the better, because I was able to get the LS1 powered, 6 speed geared, t-topped Z28 I'd dreamed about for so many years.

Then last fall I called my insurance and asked how much more a 98-00 Z28 would be on a new insurance company, and when she told me $100/mo LESS I did the only smart thing I could think of...... bought the Z28 that day.

Insurance. Plain and simple. Had planned on a T/A, could afford a T/A but when I got insurance quotes i said **** it. I could have paid the premiums but on principle alone there was on way I was going to pay more per month in insurance than car payment. Then I started looking for a v6 bird. Im happy with mine.

I bought my 92 Camaro RS with the crappy L03 TBI motor in it when I was just 17 and still in high school. It got decent mileage...but mid-senior year, the 305 died. So I put a 350 H.O. crate motor in (kept the TBI unfortuneately) but my gas mileage went to hell in a handbasket. It sucked going college (which was about 20 miles away from me, versus 2 for high school) and I have to run premuim in that car because the timing has to be advanced so much. It just wasn't cutting it.

I was just browsing carmax.com and came across a red 99 Camaro, 7700 dollars. Went down there with the page for the car printed and bought it that same day.

Now that I'm a process server, I really do not regret buying this car at all. Its got enough pep for me (ran a 15.6 1/4 mile stock). My boss has an 00 Z28 Convertable and he gets around 200miles to the tank because most of our driving is done in the city.

Insurance, and the arguement that I wanted better gas mileage stopped me from buying say a 94-95LT1 that was in the same price range.

Take the car for what its worth. Its a V6. With gas prices the way they are, do what I did. Save the V8 for pleasure and when you really want to have some real speed fun and remember what the word "torque" means, take your V8 out of the garage and go drive it around for a day. I only pay 200 dollars every 6 months now for my 92 because its 'pleasure only' and more cars than drivers discount.
