      I always laughed at my girlfriend for buying the Apple extended warranty for her 17" powerbook. Now, after the third repair, Apple actually OFFERED her a brand new replacement 17" powerbook for no extra charge.

      I'm so cheap that I won't even consider a laptop...
      p.s. I have yet to find any reason to buy ANYTHING at Best Buy. Fry's-- I shop 'em when they have ridiculous specials in the paper. Customer service= not really.

          update:
          went in and talked to the manager
          gave him an earful, but policy in my contract states that after the 4th diagnosis of the same problem it is considered a lemon. This is the 3rd time it has been sent in for this specific problem, so the next time (and I am fully confident there will be a next time) I am going to walk right up to "John" and say alright buddy, I want that laptop
          unfortunately there is not a whole lot I could do, I did however sweettalk with the girl that wrote my service order up, and she is going to ask the warehouse or whatever supervisor if she will approve a return, but if not, she asked that the delivery be rushed since I need the laptop. Mr. John was no help, except for the fact when I bring it back in a month or 2 I will serve him his own words on a silver platter
          he kinda was getting cocky telling me that I bought the extended warranty because I must have known there was going to be a problem. Wow ahole way to support your product.
          Anyways, hopefully they won't screw it up too bad, but I am turning it on in the store this time and making sure everything works good before I leave. I will be totally anal about everything now, and this will be the last big purchase I make at Best Buy for sure.
          I think I will write the letters to the office anyways letting them know how I feel, just in case they care, heck even if they dont I'm writing it anyways.
          We shall see how it goes

              that was not for just the laptop
              the laptop was 1300 to 1400 somewhere in that area
              I have all the accesories, bought ms office, $300 for an extended warranty, wireless mouse, case, ect.
              my grand total with taxes and everything was right around $2100

                  WELL time for the update
                  OF COURSE it went bad again
                  took it back to get an exchange. They informed me that they have to send it into the service center to diagnose it and approve the return. They tell me 2 or 3 days. No problem right? wrong
                  Here it is the 1st of september and guess who is still paying for internet and doesn't have a laptop.

                  I am supposed to hear from them a little later today, but I doubt it.
                  Here is what happened.
                  I bring my laptop home on the 9th of August. By the 13th the hard drive is dead again. I take it back to the store to get my return, they send it in on the 15th. Service center receives it on the 17th of Aug. I called on the 25th (a thursday) they tell me I am next in line, they have been really busy. I call on the 26th (Friday) they tell me I am next in line and they have been really busy. I call on the 27th (saturday), oh well you are next in line but they arent open today it should be done on monday. I came into the store on Monday the 29th to be informed that my laptop is next in line and should be done Tuesday. I freaked out on the guy and said let me talk to the manager. Manager was NO help, I asked for the district managers phone number, the a-hole gives me 1-888-BestBuy. SO I call that and the idiot was rude to me, tells me that my laptop is next in line and will be finished when they get to it. I called Tuesday, and they said that I am trying to scam them and that I had to bring in all my original receipts. So, they seel me a shoddy product, don't honor the warranty, and insult be by calling me a scammer. I have went rounds with them since, but I just received a call about 2 minutes ago, I actually stopped typing this to talk to the manager. He said that the service center is the one that is the holdup, and they will give me a new laptop, and fight the service center themselves. Just have to talk to the right person I guess, I'm glad he took care of me. I will still be hesitant to make another big purchase from Best Buy ever again, but at least I have my latop back (or hopefully will soon).

                          I bought a custom Sager 9860 in Jan and no problems yet. Just wearing out the keypad though. What kind did you buy? I scanned this post and didnt see it if you did.

                                I work at frys, one tip, dont buy anything with a "reduced price" sticker..... hardly anything , maybe 10% , of all merchandise returned is even tested.
