  • More bad news for GM

GM's biggest automotive part supplier, Delphi, filed for bankruptcy. Now GM stock has declined 10%. Keep an eye out, GM may be next. I hate to say it, but they're on a fast road to bankruptcy.

I think GM just sucks now. None of their lineup looks attractive to me except for the new Corvette. They just make ugly looking econo cars or just big SUVs when the gas prices are so high. If I was looking for a truck, GM trucks would be nice but I dont think I'm buying a truck anytime soon.

I dont know what to think about GM right now. They tried so hard with the Cobalt/Redline and they seem to be a let down. I think the main thing that is hurting GM is the fact that they do not have a car to compete against the mustang. They need a pony car....

I recall long ago, the US govt bailing out Chrysler and now that corporation kicked a$$ with new models that are a breath of fresh air such as the Viper.

Ford got a lift with the new Mustang.

GM is next but there are factors that are killing them such as consumer confidence, the economy, spiraling fuel prices, terrorism & massive competition from incentives from every other car manufacturer. We could blame it on their own leadership.

Today we are watching the health & fate of the airline industry. It wont be too far for the Big 3 to suffer as well with the same conditions being experienced.

However, I'm keeping my hopes up for GM.
They are entering uncharted waters in a global economy and we will see some kind of improvement in the future. With their R&D budget, all they have to do is find & unleash the new technology that lessens our dependence from foreign oil. I think this will attract millions of baby boomers and their deep pockets and nest eggs.
It's not really bad news in my opinion, business always reinvents itself after a bad slump.

As a truck buyer having been in the market for a new heavy duty truck 4 months ago, GM's trucks aren't all that attractive either. Butt ugly styling and independent-freaking-crap front suspension and the inherently weak front axle/diff system that comes along with it in the 4x4s. Both Ford & Dodge offer the tough as nails solid live axle up front in the 4x4's.

On the diesel side, they've got the stupid ultra light duty made for pickups only, high-revving V8 diesel intead of the tried & true medium-duty grade inline 6 that some competitors (read: Dodge) offer. They also only offer it in a small percentage of their trucks, and only recently that small percentage been as large as it is today. On the gas side, they replaced the big block 454 in the 3/4 tons & 1 tons with a 6.0L vortec with a much weaker torque curve, and offered the 8.1L big block only as an expensive option. The 1/2 tons (the big sellers) have a V6 and 3 V8's available to them, and all of the V8's have very simliar HP and torque numbers. Why not ditch 2 of the V8's and put a big, healthy engine in there. Look at Dodge's success w/ the Hemi. You can get A V6, or A Hemi in the 1/2 tons. In the HD (3/4 and 1 tons) you can get a Hemi or a Cummins. A simple, powerful and marketable line up.

Even with rediculous fuel prices, 3 of the top 4 sellin from the big 3. People want trucks & SUV's still, so a new pony car won't help them out at all.... It'll make a few enthusiasts happy. Just look at the GTO's lack of success.

Just when they need to save themselves the most and come up with something new & innovative that just blows the competition away, what do they come out with as their all new 06 model? The $55k SSR and the HHR. And for god's sake someone needs to take the SS badges away from whoever is in charge of those things.

GM May have ruled the 80s & 90s, but they're done this decade. They've got a lot of catching up to do to get where Chrysler's at right now.

                  Mike

I've heard lots of rumors that GM is actually putting together a plan to file for chpt. 11, then ditch all the union workers, and save themselves an assload of money in the long run.

Also, the GTO is not a failure. They are meeting or exceeding all sales goals that were set for the car. It was never intended to be a high-volume seller.
