• Finally stepped up to Windows XP Pro

I don't see what everyone was making a fuss about--everyone said XP sucks this or that... I like it!

My laptop from work is equipped with Windows XP Pro and Office 2003... and after using that for a month I couldn't stand my home PC with my Windows 2000 Pro and Office 2000 Pro. We have an employee discount program with Microsoft so I picked up the later versions and installed them a few days ago along with a new Dell 17" LCD monitor.

Why does it seem like people hate XP? I can understand XP Home sucks but Pro is fine. Runs a lot faster than my old 2000 install, its built on the same base technology anyway (basically Windows 2000 with a body kit), Office 2003 has really grown on me (I spend ten hours a day in Excel doing advanced financial modeling and forecasting), everything is more colorful, it just looks and feels more cutting-edge. I've been using 2000 since 1999 so the old grey color scheme started to feel old.

    I'm a happy XP convert.

I love XP Pro. Been using it for a couple years now. It is the best Windows OS I've ever used. I know when I had Win9x, the max I could keep the computer running was MAYBE 2-3 days w/o a restart, win2k I could get like 5-6 days w/o a stack dump or something. Since I've had this P4 2.4GHz HT system I built a year and a half ago, I've kept the computer running non stop for weeks at a time. I'm on a 20 day no restart streak right now. Windows certainly has come along ways in 10 years.

I love XP. Been using it since the beta tests (yes, legally, i was an actual beta tester) and it's just about the best thing for PCs since k7s.

Longhorn is ok...it's not much different from XP from what I have messed with it.

I'm waiting for a better version of linux to come out. If the bastards would just make the installs all universal and one click like windows, it would be much more popular. Most people would go to linux if they didnt have to compile their own damn software.

eh..we just had the same upgrade here at the government (with HUGE flat screens hehe) ..i still think 2000 pro was the best i ever used...i still think its a bit more stable and more customizable...although XP is very user-friendly

I like it but its a little too user friendly, I like manually doing alot of things...

Like shift, and when I see things where the new porsche has an sctive stability control, I'd rather have me do the thinking not hte car.

well its getting tiresome. they keep moving things around. i have lived through nt3 -> nt4 -> 2000 -> xp pro. it gets annoying trying to figure out where i should be looking for things. if you think xp is fast, boot an old copy of win95 sometime

                        I love XP pro.

I had an MSDN subscription and it came with just about everything MS produced. That was about 1.5 years ago and I will not go back!

My only problem is the inability to run older PC games. I have some old RPG's (Bard's Tale 1 - 3)from way back that won't even install on XP. Kinda sucks, but I deal.

Longhorn looks sweet! Maximum PC had a nice review on it and gave it rave reviews. Too bad MS feels they don't have the time to include the new file system that would have replaced NTFS. That was one of the biggest advantages of the new OS.

                          ya SQL based file system.

linux would be better if it could run games (doom3 EQ2 etc) and was alot more structured as in had a standard.

I work for a company that only uses Microsoft OS's and Servers. Domain controllers everywhere. Terminal Servers and Citrix. I finally landed my job as a techie woohoo. 2003 server is an awesome server OS. I have made a teamspeak/terminal/file server out my girlfriends p4 2.4 512MB dell and I'm planning on hooking up a second cable modem directly to it. I just bought me a dell with p4 3.0 HT 1GB dual channel and 160 SATA hdd for EQ2 it came with Home SP2 and it's great, now if i didn't know what i was doing and a beginner I'm sure I would be complaining about errors.
